AIM:

 TO STUDY AND UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF EPHEMERAL

ARCHITECTURE( TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE) IN THE CURRENT
URBAN SCENARIO.

OBJECTIVES:

 TO STUDY ABOUT THE HISTORY OF EPHEMERAL ARCHITECTURE IN

THE PAST.
 TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF TEMPORARY AND
ALTERNATIVE TECHNIQUES IN ARCHITECTURE.
 TO STUDY ON AREAS AND TECHINQUES TO MAKE THE URBAN
SETTINGS MORE FLEXIBLE IN ORDER TO BETTER ORGANIZE AND
RESIST THE CURRENT URBAN PROBLEMS.

SCOPE:

 THE SCOPE OF STUDY INVOLVES THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE

HISTORY OF EPHEMERAL ARCHITECTURE, ITS IMPORTANCE AND
ITS USAGE IN THE CURRENT WORLD TO SOLVE THE VARIOUS
PROBLEMS OF TODAY’S CITY.

LIMITATIONS:

THE STUDY IS LIMITED TO THE VARIOUS IDEAS AND LITERATURE STUDY

EXAMPLES THAT ARE ALREADY DONE TILL DATE FOR THE EPHEMERAL
STRUCTURES.
INTRODUCTION:

 The physical structure of cities has evolved, morphing, mutating and becoming
more malleable, fluid, and more open to change than the technology and social
institutions that generate them.
 Urban settlements globally face increasing flows of human movement,
acceleration in the amount and periodicity of natural disasters, and iterative
economic crises that modify streams of capital and their allocation to physical
components of cities.
 As a consequence, urban settings are required to be more flexible in order to
better organize and resist outside and inside pressures.
 DEFINITION OF EPHEMERAL ARCHITECTURE: THESE ARE
STRUCTURES WHICH LAST FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO
FULFILL THE REQUIRED FUNCTIONS. FOR EXAMPLE IN CASE OF
FLOODS OR NATURAL DISASTERS.

 Forms and Outcomes of Contemporary Pilgrimage

 Flows of people are increasing tremendously, not only as an effect of
optimization, in the capacity of mobilizing people, but also in more specific
contexts.
 In recent years, for instance, there has been an extraordinary intensification of
pilgrimage practices, which has translated into the need for larger and more
frequently constructed structures for hosting massive gatherings.
 Extreme examples of temporary religious cities are the ephemeral constructions
created for the Hajj in Mecca, as well as a series of temporary cities constructed
in India for hosting celebrations such as the DurgaPuja , Ganesh Chaturthi, and
Kumbh Mela—the last a religious pilgrimage that, according to official figures,
supports the congregation of more than 100 million people.
 Natural disasters and changes in climatic conditions are increasingly displacing
people through involuntary journeys, making evident the importance of
temporary shelters as holding strategies or short-term solutions.
 The temporary cities constructed in the Philippines, Haiti, Chile, and several
other places, as a result of a natural disaster, are some recent examples.

 Portable Dining Unit (PDU) is the alternative to food trucks. Designed
with emerging chefs and mobilized dining culture in mind, this
corrugated plastic shell expands to accommodate from two to 50
foodies.
CONCLUSION:

 Ephemeral architecture, alike static architecture has features designed to

last a life time such as the construction components. Despite its character
to be assembled and disassembled, the continuity lie within the
similarities of its sites.
 It provides a solution to a large number of urban problems faced all
around the globe.
