Maarten Siebel,

I am a student of 2nd year pursuing my degree of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) at Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT) Roorkee, INDIA. I am majoring in Civil Engineering. I have an excellent academic record with
a Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A) of 7.859 on a scale of 10.

I have studied the details of your research regarding water/wastewater treatment systems on the website
of www.unesco-ihe.org and I am genuinely interested in pursuing an undergraduate research position under your
able guidance or being a part of your ongoing research work water and wastewater treatment during the
period of May to July (2016). I believe I have the required skills and aptitude to contribute positively. I am also
interested in further studies in these fields after my graduation. As an undergraduate of the top technical
institution of the country, I have truly realized the importance of practical work experience in the development of
one’s logical and mental framework and this is reflected by my past year record at IIT Roorkee. I’m looking for a
challenging project to apply my knowledge in this field and hence learn further.

I would deem it a brilliant career opportunity given a chance to do a Research/Project work under your
guidance or be a part of your ongoing Research/Project work as an intern. I have already done a project on
“Identification,treatment and removal of various constituents of water such as Arsenic, Carbon Dioxide ,
Nitrate, Iron, Manganese and Flouride ” which included the impact of high concentrations of each constituent
on human health and source of each constituent I’m very keen to pursue my deep interest in Environmental
Engineering.I have done a course on Numerical Methods.I am currently doing a research project on
“Analysis of phosphorus” (Jan 2016 till present), in which I am focusing on the effect of excessive
concentration of phosphorus in wastewater and methods adopted for its removal before recycling the
wastewater at IIT Roorkee.

Below are the topics which are under my areas of interest:

Treatment of bacteria in wastewater,removal of phosphorus by PAO(phosphorus accumilating
organisms) ,concentration of pathogens in water, water treatment reactors,advance wastewater
treatment systems,sewer systems,removal of micropollutants,sustainable use of water resources and
sludge treatment and water reuse
