EcoLabs & Mistletoe Project

Our current cities’ design approach We aim to re-design the
has led to global shortage of consumption and living patterns
resources, complacent behavior to make future cities self-
and divided social impact. sustainable and eco-friendly.

Create your own scalable, self-sustaining, modular kit focused on
human centric design and driven by technology

• SHELTER
o Max. of 20 sqm of floor area per person with private and additional shared space.
o Able to accommodate up to 5 people
o Design should cater to the individual’s personal needs (rest, bath, cook, and work)
and community requirements (interact)
o Portable and easy to assemble/construct on site ,easily scalable (modular) to a
community
o Made of eco-friendly and affordable materials
o Able to maintain indoor temperature within the range 24-28 deg C

• ENERGY
o All energy to be sourced from renewable sources (waste to energy is acceptable)
o Maximum of 3 kWh per person per day for domestic use (excluding water treatment
systems)
o Alternative cooling technologies to be incorporated
o Design must be flexible and responsive to future energy requirements
o 2 days energy storage (as back up)

• WATER
o 70 litres per person per day or 50% reduction from current local consumption
o Water recycling system for grey water (>80%)
o Rainfall water catchment and treatment
o Grey and Black Water treatment

DESIGN CHALLENGES

• Human centric design approach - creating quality compact social spaces

for interactions
• Reduction in resource consumption in terms of energy, water, cooling
• In cooperating cutting edge technology to enable the above
• Inculcating behavioural changes with “Sharing” as the driving force
• Maintaining modern standards of comfort
• Is decentralisation sustainable for high density cities?
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we
created them” - Einstein
