Comparative and Superlative Adjectives

ONE – SYLLABLE COMPARATIVE SUPERLATIVE


Tall taller than the tallest
Old older than the oldest
Long longer than the longest
Large larger than the largest
Big bigger than the biggest
Thin thinner than the thinnest
Fat fatter than the fattest

TWO – SYLLABLE COMPARATIVE SUPERLATIVE


Peaceful more peaceful than the most peaceful
Pleasant more pleasant than the most pleasant
Careful more careful than the most careful
Thoughtful more thoughtful than the most thoughtful

If the two – syllable adjectives ends with –y, change the y to I and add –er for the
comparative form. For the superlative form change the y to I and add –est.
