Rishika Singh

Subject Reference: Media Studies

Rishika has developed into an outstanding media studies student whose skill-set
consists of a range of advanced digital applications. She is a highly motivated
learner who is capable of independent research and detailed analysis, while her
practical work is meticulously prepared and presented accurately and with flair.

One of Rishika’s strengths is her creativity, where her enthusiasm for media
juxtaposes her passion for the film. Her photography is professional in its design and
composition. She innovates, designs and transforms imagery in a highly
sophisticated manner and consistently creates work of the highest standard. Another
strength is her determination to produce perfect results; Rishika critiques her own
work objectively while taking criticism from others in a positive light. Her time
management skills are good and she is able to adapt to changing schedules and
unforeseen complications calmly and methodically. She is highly motivated and has
a steadfast belief in her own ability to achieve the highest grades, which she
invariably does.

She has no obvious weakness in the skills required to complete both the theory and
practical elements of this course; her meticulous research skills provide a solid
foundation for every task she completes. She understands how pre-production
informs a project and her photography and cinematography ranges from the
conventional to the experimental. Her use of Adobe Photoshop CC and Premier Pro
CC are advanced and she edits with precision and creativity.

One of her passions is in moving image exhibiting an excellent grasp of the various
stages, from concept and pre-production planning, through to production and post-
production, where editing completes the artistic process. Rishika’s organisational
skills shine through her online blog where her work is showcased; it is clear she has
an aesthetic eye and this is complemented by her ability to analyse, evaluate and
think synoptically. She is a confident student who works effectively whether
independently or within a group, where she is comfortable leading, or being led. As a
leader she is innovative and creative in her guidance and manages situations
efficiently and effectively and guides her film crews with integrity. In her final year
she has taken on the role as Director of Student Film and Media, producing the
weekly BSM News bulletin, directing a large crew of students in various roles.

In a full and varied range of activities beyond the classroom Rishika has: shown
great empathy and kindness when visiting schools in Sri Lanka, working on
improvement projects to help those less fortunate in their surroundings; has explored
all that New York has to offer during the school’s creative arts trip, where she
interacted with a range of workshops and activities linked to the curriculum; planned
and delivered a 10 week intensive filmmaking workshop after school to introduce
KS3 students to the moving image. With the combination of passion, skill and
dedication I expect Rishika to develop into an outstanding practitioner of film; she
has all the attributes to advance her productions into degree level and beyond.
