What is Stress ?

What is Stress ?
Stress is a part of everyone’s everyday life and its not only involves
in the workplace and the home but also in our general
environment. There is no definition of stress that Everyone
agrees on, what is stressful for one person may be pleasurable or
have little effect on others and we all react to stress differently.
Someone says that
• “Stress is basically a disconnection from the earth”
It means that when a person in a stressful condition he can’t continue
his routine life. He basically cuts from the world and he feel
loneliness. He don’t know what he have done, and what he is going
to do in next moment.
Simply you can say that
“ Stress is the non-specific response of the body to any demand
made on it ” 4
What is Job Stress ?

• Job stress can be defined as


• The harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when
the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities,
resources, or needs of the worker. Job stress can lead to poor
health and even injury.

• The nature of work is changing at whirlwind speed. Perhaps now


more than ever before, job stress poses a threat to the health of
workers and, in turn, to the health organizations. Through its
research program in job stress and through educational materials
such as this booklets, trainings programs and establishment of
stress management these are committed to providing
organizations with knowledge to reduce this threat.

The person or event that triggers the stress response, it can be

the source of stress.

• Stress can affect the performance in both ways positive and


negative as well. Stress can described both in positive and
negative way.
• Positive Stress
Stress is said to be positive when the situation offers an
opportunity for one to gain something; and our body is in the
condition to accomplish that demand with out any difficulty.
Positive stress is also called Eustress. In Eustress productivity
increased.
• Negative Stress
Stress is said to be negative when the demands are placed on us
and our body refused to accomplish that demand.
After a point of Fatigue (Extreme tiredness) Distress stage came.
In distress productivity decreased. 24

Stress related mental disorders have become the
fastest growing occupational disease. And alarming
thing is that stress is related to the diseases that are
leading causes of death. Where stress is affecting the
worker’s ability to perform the job, it also creating
major problems in the human body as well.
Physical or mental stresses may cause physical
illness as well as mental or emotional problems. Here
are the parts of the body most effected by the stress.
