PROPOSAL FOR SECRUITY SYSTEM IN HOSTEL

The university needs a good security system in the hostels of both boys and girls. University wants to
introduce new system having better security.

Our Vice Chancellor asked us to provide a solution for this problem and write an external proposal in
response to this.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

TECHNICAL SECTION:

Security systems can do many things to provide importance.People work efficiently , easily and calmly
when they have a safe and secure working environment.This is achieved by increasing the security of
any department or institution up to an extent that people feel fearless and satisfied working
under/inside that particular place. When people work without any fear, they give their best and chances
are that certain objectives and goals will be achieved within the estimated time. This is how better
results are obtained.

The security in the hostels need to be good .It is already reasonable but everyone knows there is always
room for improvement.Security within the hostel is one of the most common problems all over the
country. We have 4 hostels in our university, which comprise of 3 boys hostel and one girls hostel. All of
these hostels are handled through manual operation by the hostel office. The whole registration process
is done physically. In this way, there are a great deal of repetitions which can be effectively avoided. As a
result, there is a lot of strain on the individuals who are running the hostel and web applications or
softwares are not generally utilized as a part of this specific circumstance.Also it puts a strain on the
security of the hostels because the current system in manual and the staff is not competent enough to
provide the required security.

Designing a biometric computerized system with the environment-friendly GUI, and effective
performance by identifying the shortcomings of the existing system will help to overcome the problems
of existing system.The biometric system plays the most significant role in this current century. Finger
print identification is one of the most efficient and commonly used identity verification systems because
of its uniqueness. Security within the hostel is one of the most repetitive problems. To keep up day by
day attendance verification is difficult and time consuming. There are number of existing attending
systems available for the students of the university, but for the hostel students it must improve. Within
the existing system gate keepers manually maintain the attendance for hostel students which is
sometimes full of errors and it is also time consuming. Biometric system is used to include a large
number of students within the hostel. This system automatically monitors the entry and exit of students
from hostel and offers alert SMS to parents for their safety.
 When a student enters through the entrance of
the hostel , he/she places his right thumb on the
finger print sensor. The finger print is scanned
and matched with the already saved finger prints
of eligible students who are allowed to enter the
hostels. The finger print is analysed and after
successful analysis , it is accepted. The Student's
details are displayed and his/her status is stored
in the database.The attendance report is
examined and the report is sent to parents
mobile phone number.

Biometric technology may be a reliable tool for authentication. The system can further be improved or
combined which will help in making the system more effective and user friendly.

The problem of security can be solved by installing security cameras at different places all around the
university but especially at the walls & buildings of the hostels and also at the entrance and exit of the
hostels .
These cameras are of high quality resolution and a person face in the camera is visible clearly.

Cameras will be working all day during the working hours and they are reliable storing recording the
past month .

Further security issues can be resolved by hiring a security guard . This guard will be a good trainer
keeping check on any suspicious activity or person entering in the department .

Walk through gate will be placed at the front door of the department and a person has to pass through
it in order to enter the department .In this way any metal will be detected and any dangerous
equipment or weapon will be exposed.

Biometric card system will be installed at the entrance door of the department and only students of UET
will be able to unlock the door . This system will be installed with a buzzer and a buzzer sound will be
preoduced as soon as an irrelevant card will be placed on it. By doing this only staff members and
students can enter the department and no irrelevant person will be there in the department.

In the end a security system is important because it provides peace of mind by protecting your property
from all types of different bad situations and it provides convenience in acting as a hub various
automated technology.

MANAGEMENT SECTION

Security cameras at different places in department , hiring a security guard, installing a walk through
gate and biometric entrance system will increase the safety of the department.
These features will help department a lot to improve their safety. Security cameras installed on wall will
show recording on the screen in the chairman office. A person handling the cameras recording will be
able to zoom at a certain place and will be able to pause the camera recording at a certain time or place.
These camera’s batteries will need to be replaced after every 1 year but they will be replaced without
any cost . The walk through gate installed at the front door will be reliable and we don’t need any one to
manage it .It will be completely automatic. Biometric system also doesn’t need anyone to operate .
Students and staff has to just place their card on system and it will be investigated automatically .
