Classroom Management Letter

Greeting Parents,

It is a wonderful time of the year! I would like to welcome your family to Reid

Elementary School 2nd grade inclusion classroom. My name is Ms. Carter and I am delighted

that I will be your child’s inclusion classroom teacher this year. I am looking forward to an

exciting and very successful year working with you and your scholar. It is my goal to provide

each of the students with educationally challenging, yet a fun experience in my class. I have high

expectations and I know that you do as well. I will do all that I can to help your child succeed

and achieve those expectations. Mr. X is our class paraprofessional and he does a fantastic job

co-teaching the students with me. We both are all here to meet the needs of your child and will

help with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year.

Martin & Sugarman (1993) states that a positive and effective teaching and learning

environment can occur when a management system is in place. In order to help your child excel

and reach their full potential we have a classroom management system that positively influences

the behavior of students. Your child will receive clear and simple rules and expectations to

follow which will be consistent and fairly applied. Your child will be given procedures to follow

while in class. These procedures will allow for order in the classroom. Procedures of the

classroom according to Watson (nd) will give your students an understanding of how they are

expected to proceed through the routine of the day. Your child will also receive verbal and non-

verbal praise, have opportunities in which they can fully participate and engage in classroom

activities, materials and with fellow students.

In order to ensure that your child is in a safe, culturally responsive, and engaging learning

environment we have designed a classroom environment that promotes meaningful activities that

are also socially interactive. Instruction will be effective by specific, direct and presented in a

calm and clear tone. Pacing and sequencing activities will enhance engagement and learning

while reducing disruptions. Desks have been arranged for students to work independently and in

group settings. Accommodations will be made when necessary. Parsonson (2012) advices, that

the use of these strategies will increase the engagement of all students which is our goal for your

child.

It is important that you and your child be informed of the classroom behavioral

expectations for success. The rules adhere to keeping a safe environment that is conducive to

learning in the classroom. I have found that parents are supportive of good classroom behavior in

order to ensure their child is a safe and engaging environment to maximize learning. Please go

over the rules at home with your child. The following rules are expected for each child to follow:

 Come to class on time and prepared

 Be a good listener
 Follow directions
 Respect yourself, others and property
 Have safe hands and feet

It is also my goal to ensure that communication is fostered in respect within the

classroom. I will make myself available and approachable to your child. Your child we be

spoken to and treated with fairness at all times.

I will treat your child with dignity. I find it important to show dignity and value to all our

diverse learners. Our students are in need of guidance, care and attention. It is my responsibility

to care and value all experiences of my students.

In order to recognize your child’s work and good behavior verbal and non-verbal praise

will be given. In addition to praise a tangible reward will be managed through a token

reinforcement program. Students will be given a token when their behavior matches the desired

behavior. On a regular basis, items will be on sale and privileges which students can purchase

with the token.

The school personnel and I are here to meet the needs of your child and will help with

any questions or concerns you have throughout the school year. There is an African proverb that

states it takes a village to raise a child. It is motto here at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School

and one that I take very seriously to collaborate to support the needs of your child.

If your child develops any difficulty or behavioral concerns, I will notify you. I hope that

you would advise me if your child at any time has a problem, academically, socially or

emotionally. You are also invited to email me, phone me or visit the school any time that you

have a question concerning your child's progress and behavior. I will keep you informed by

sending home a weekly notes as well as a progress report during the 5th week of each nine weeks

of the grading period.

The success of your child is very important to me. I consider it a great pleasure and my

responsibility to be your child’s teacher. I look forward to meeting and working with each of this

school year. Together we can do great things.

Sincerely,

Ms. Carter
