STATISTICS
COURSE DESCRIPTION

• This course aims to provide students with the fundamental understanding

of concepts, principles and methods in statistical analysis necessary to
effectively employ in real life particularly in field of education management.
Topics covered include descriptive measures, survey design, and hypothesis
testing. The main objective is to provide students with pragmatic tools for
assessing statistical claims and conducting their own statistical analyses.
COURSE OUTCOMES

• Explain how he/she can help in the attainment of IFSU’s VMGO;

• Apply statistical methods as a tool in dealing with problems;
• Design sampling technique to be used in data gathering;
• Analyze data using descriptive and inferential statistical tools;
• Make conclusion from analyses and communicate result of analysis;
• Perform statistical analysis using statistical software; and
• Appreciate the importance of statistical literacy in today’s data rich world.
COURSE REQUIREMENT

• PARTICIPATION (40%). A student’s participation is required in class discussions

and group dynamics. Student is rated based on acceptable inputs to class and group
discussions. Student is also required to participate in online discussion. Students must
also accomplish problem sets/exercises required. Attendance to face to face class is
also included in the participation.
• REQUIREMENT (30%). A research work is required to all students either done
individually or by group. This is in tandem with requirement of Research subject.
• EXAMINATION (30%). A student is required to take an examination given before

attainment of the vision of the university through your personal or professional
endeavor. Make reflection also on your personal vision particularly stating how your
enrolment in the program will help attain your personal vision.
B. Read the article of Grail Burril on Role of Statistics in Improving Education from
