LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 4 (CHEMISTRY)

I. Objectives
In this lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. Describe what happens to the materials when heated and when cooled;
b. Perform the activity with care and accuracy
c. Work harmoniously and cooperatively upon doing the activity
II. Subject Matter
Changes that Matters Undergo: What happens to the materials when heated and when
cooled
III. Materials Needed
Thin can
Marsmallow
Chocolate bar
Margarine
Thick clothe
Candle
IV. Procedure
A. Motivation
Jumbled letters will be shown to the class and pupils will jot down. Based from
the jumbled letter organized, what are their meanings or ideas?
TPEMRUARE MLET
HTAE OOLCDE
SLDIO SBSTNCEUA
QIUDLI
B. Presentation
For today’s science activity, you will describe what happens to the materials when
heated and when cooled.
A video will be presented in the class with regards to the topic and are asked to
share their thoughts on what they have observed. Be sure to record your
observation.
C. Group Work
The class will be divided into 3 groups and each group has its own tasked to be
accomplished. After the experiment, they need to answer a question given by the
teacher.

Leaders should get the materials to the teacher.

Remember the rules when conducting an activity.

(To the teacher: Roam around and guide the students upon doing the activity. Tell
the instructions to be followed in doing the experiment. Asked the students if
there is a problem arises or if there is a question in regards to the activity.)
D. Comparison and Abstraction
Each group will present their output in the class.
Record the outputs of each group and may be shown to the class in this table,
Name of materials What happens when we Can we change them
heat them? back again? How?
Marsmallow
Chocolate
Margarine
Asked the class to take a closer look of the table and share their thoughts upon
observing the table presented in the board.

E. Generalization
Based from the experiment, give a generalization about what happens when a
material is heated and cooled.
F. Application
Table will be shown to the class.
Instruction: Write YES or NO
MATERIALS WILL IT MELT? WILL IT COOLED
DOWN?
Wax
Candle
Butter
Salt
Wood
Sugar

V. Evaluation

TRUE OR FALSE: Draw “” if the statement is TRUE and draw “” if the
statement is FALSE.

1. A substance will melt down if heated.

2. A physical change will not occur after a substance is cooled down.
3. Matter takes up space, but does not have any mass.
4. A substance when heated becomes liquid from solid.
5. A transfer or flow due to the difference in temperature between two objects is
called energy.
6. When heat is added to a substance, the molecules and atoms vibrate faster.
7. A material or substance changed back to its form from solid to liquid when
heated.
8. When a substance is heated or cooled it does not change its shape, size and
texture.
VI. Assignment
List down things you see in your house that melts down when heated.
