Introduction

Homoparental adoption is the adoption of a child by a homosexual person or an

homosexual couple, forming an homoparental family. Adoption by homosexuals
couples is legal in 28 countries, although this is not the case for chile due to the
strong dispute over the issue. In Chile, homoparental adoption as such is not legal,
but a homosexual couple can take care of a child belonging to the Sename, but
only temporarily.

According to a national survey conducted in 2018, 52% of Chileans believe that

homosexuals couples should be able to adopt, with 45% against, and the rest
abstaining from voting.
Arguments

In favor

Children in Chile and around the world have the right and need to have a family, to
grow psychologically healthy, to have protection and love. Allowing more couples
to adopt a child would improve the situation of all children in this condition
(sename), because the reality, in chile, is that the program that is charged with
protecting children without family is constantly psychologically, physically and
sexually abusing the children. In order to provide further evidence of the ill-
treatment of children and adolescents throughout Chile, we will provide data from a
report prepared by the National Institute for Human Rights in 2018 on child abuse
within the sename. This report showed that 52.4% of children claimed to have
been abused several or many times, while 47.6% said it was a single episode.

In opposition

We are all aware of the mistreatment of Chilean children and adolescents, but we
do not believe that the solution is to allow homosexuals to adopt because this
would affect the idea of the family. The Church and God set out what children need
a father and a mother to develop properly as person, then minors need a male and
female example to become healthy and complete adults. Although around the
world tests have been done to see the effect that homosexual couples have on
children no data has been obtained to prove that it affects their growth to have
homosexual parents anyway, it is necessary to collect more data before being able
to categorically declare that there is no difference in a homoparental family. To
conclude, I leave a verse from the Bible which says how the family should be made
up. Honor your father and mother, so that you may enjoy a long life on earth that
the Lord your God gives you. Exodus 20:12.
In favor

According to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) The child shall enjoy
special protection, opportunities and services, provided by law and other means, to
enable him to develop physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially in a
healthy and normal manner, as well as in conditions of freedom and dignity. If this
right is paramount for children, why we allow them to be violated and unprotected
in the face of society? Perhaps it wouldn´t be better than a couple who want to
raise a family and who cannot have a child of their own because of biological
issues, adopt a child who suffers and needs love, protection and a family that
supports him and covers his basic needs such as having his clothes, food,
education, health etc.

In opposition

Although, if Chile legalize homoparental adoption, nothing guarantees us that

homosexual couples will have both the economic and sentimental stability to take
care of a child. For example, homosexual couples are more unstable and less
durable than a heterosexual couple, in general lasts for less than 18 months as
they are never established. In addition, there are more problems in a homosexual
relationship because society still does not fully accept them even more in a
Catholic society.
Conclusion

This issue is very complicated for both homosexual couples, children and even for
society as any decision that is made affects us all, But here we have to worry about
children because they are the future of the country and they are also helpless
before the world. Let’s hope that in a country like Chile, where we know that
children are mistreated when they are supposedly taken care of by the state
through the sename, the decision will be make to protect and look out for the well-
being of the children.
