Reflection Essay

Writing is not just something that is required or throwing some evidence together to back

up an opinion; writing is much more than that. This AP Language course has impacted my

writing and language through increasing complexity and my knowledge of certain tools that have

made my skills more effective and thorough. I have been able to learn how to correctly structure

my writing pieces as a whole while also grasping new vocabulary to make myself a more

knowledgeable scholar and writer than I was before. Mrs. Crandall has guided me to become a

more complete reader, and read for understanding, not just to say that I did. As a whole this

course has been able to show me that I am in depth and elaborative scholar, having learned to

become more thorough with my thoughts and how to correctly structure my writing while

incorporating essential elements within.

My writing has truly changed for the better and has made a large scholarly leap from

where I began at the start of this course. At the start I only felt comfortable completing the bare

minimum when it came to writing, whereas now I consider myself to be an in depth scholar,

shown now from the length in my pieces and after every piece of evidence elaborating with more

than just one to two sentences. Also through the concept of vocabulary I have improved

tremendously because of the vocabulary activities and quizzes furthering my knowledge of

various words and how to apply them into my writing. Another point that I have improved with

is the correlation of reading and comprehension questions together, as I have now been taught to
take my time on the reading and analyze what type and style of questions are being asked in

order to answer correctly.

As I continue through my academic career, I have many different goals for myself as a

scholar. One goal would most definitely be to not overstress myself and feel anxiety about

assignments that are overwhelming. Moving forward, I need to get all of my items together that I

need, take a deep breathe, and write what feels right and correct about the topic, using strategies

and tools I have learned in all my literature courses. Another goal I have is to take my time when

completing tasks whether it be writing an essay or questions concerning a topic being covered in

class . If I take my time and truly reflect, I feel like as a writer my thoughts can be clearly

expressed and I can effectively complete what is being asked for on the rubric or guidelines.

Another goal I have in mind for myself regarding the future is to analyze and annotate whatever I

may be reading in order to truly read for understanding and meaning. Maybe I could be reading

for standardized testing or it could be a novel being read in class, whatever it may be, making

notes of the reading and devices throughout and finding the actual purpose for the text can help

me find a purpose for any text that I will read.
