HTML Overview
A summary of the new Flash-Free HTML environment in
Workforce Central v8.1.3.
Revision History
Document Revision Product Version Release Date
A Workforce Central v8.1.3 December 2018
Contents
Earlier versions of Workforce Central included a combination of Flash, HTML, and Java applet navigator
components. Because of changing browser support, current best practices are to replace Java applet and
Flash-dependent components for an all-HTML environment. Java applets are not supported in the latest
navigator environments and browser support for Adobe Media Flash player is now being discontinued.
l Starting with Workforce Central v8.0.11, replacements for Java applet components were provided as
described in the Navigator Implementation Guide.
l Workforce Central v8.1.3 is providing HTML replacements for most Flash-dependent components.
To access the new HTML components, a migration event is run after installing v8.1.3 as described in the
Flash-to-HTML Migration Guide. This event automatically clones Flash-dependent components, creates
HTML Navigator Profiles, and updates users’ Display Profiles.
Some components in v8.1.3, however, do not have HTML replacements:
l The functionality of the following widgets that do not have HTML replacements can be configured in
another, migrated, widget:
Flash Widget Migration Recommendation
Call List widget Use the Staffing Assistant in the Schedule Planner instead of the Call List
widget.
Accruals widget Use the Accruals add-on in the timecard instead of the Accruals widget.
Flash timecard (Employee Use the HTML timecard instead of the Flash timecard.
Timecard)
Metrics widget Use the Metrics add-on in Schedule Planner instead of the metrics
widget.
Flash Scheduling widget Use the HTML Schedule Planner instead of the Flash Scheduling widget.
Weather widget Use the Single Link widget pointing to a preferred weather site instead of
using the Weather widget.
Time-Off widget Use the functionality available in HTML Request Manager instead of
using the Time-Off widget.
l The Staffing and Task Management widgets are not migrated to HTML in service release v8.1.3. The
functionality of these widgets cannot be configured in another widget, so any navigator that contains
these widgets must remain on Flash.
l Existing GTOR and Work Time requests that use external actions (which are Process Manager
templates) that put a request in to a suspended state are not currently supported in the HTML Request
Manager. If your environment includes these types of requests you cannot run the migration event in
v8.1.3.
Because of this, both HTML and Flash navigators are available within the Workforce Central v8.1.3
environment until the Flash-removal process is completed. If a navigator contains any components that do
not have an HTML equivalent (such as the Staffing or Task Management widgets), the navigator continues
to depend on Flash. As such, an important requirement for v8.1.3 users is that Flash-dependent components
and v8.1.3 HTML components cannot be included in the same navigator.
This document describes HTML Navigator components. For information about managing Flash-dependent
components, refer to the v8.1 Navigator Administrator Guide.
For more information about these features, refer to the following updated 8.1.3 resources:

introduced in this service pack

Navigation updates
Although navigator continues to be the Workforce Central user interface with the same functionality as
earlier releases, the v8.1.3 HTML navigator has been modified with a number of improvements to the user
interface:
6
l The carousel has been replaced with the Open Workspaces drop-down, which is located to the right of
the last tab in the action bar.
l The user name and photo as well as Sign Out link and Search button have been moved to the top right
corner of the screen.
Most users, regardless of whether they are using an HTML navigator or a Flash-dependent navigator, use
the same URL to log on to the system:
http://WebServer/wfc/logon
The navigator defined in the user's Navigator Profile opens.
Timekeeper updates
The following Timekeeper™ enhancements are included with the 8.1.3 service pack.
Exceptions widget
The Exceptions widget allows you to manage and resolve exceptions. You can access the HTML
Exceptions widget in the following ways:
l Drag it from the secondary view to the primary view.
l Use the Timecard Approval wizard.
7
Timecard widget
View menu – A new option on the View menu (Only Days with Exceptions) allows you to view only
days that have exceptions. When selected, a status message appears in the timecard indicating that you are
viewing only those days that have exceptions.
Quick Actions – The Quick Actions menu provides two new options:
l Mark/Unmark – Allows you to show that you know about the exception, but have decided to take no
further action. The color of the exceptions icon changes from red to green. To change the exception
back to unmarked, place the + cursor over the exception and click it. (Prior to v8.1.3, this option was
named Marking as Reviewed or Unmarking as Reviewed.)
l Add Missing Punch – Allows you to add a missing scheduled punch to the timecard. If the missing
punch is for a scheduled start or end time, the scheduled time is added to the timecard cell.
The Add Missing Punch option:
o Can only be used for punches that match the employee's scheduled start and end times of the shift.
o Is limited to days with one row in the timecard.
o Does not include breaks
If you want to enter missing punches that do not match the start and end times of a shift, you must
manually enter the punches.
Timestamp widget
The appearance and work flows of the Timestamp widget have been enhanced to provide more streamlined
processes for users. Several issue resolutions were also introduced in Workforce Centralv8.1.3. The
Timestamp Widget user experience has not changed in the migration from flash to HTML.
Scheduling updates
Request Manager and Employee Calendar have been updated for v8.1.3.
Request Manager
The appearance and functionality of the Request Manager widget has been improved.
8
Improved access to actions and functionality
l Icons - The action bar contains icons that enable you to perform actions on selected requests. Icons not
applicable to the selected request are hidden.
l Right-click options - Right-click a request and a menu of available actions appears. Available actions
change according to the request type and status.
l Perform actions on multiple requests - You can use Shift-select or Ctrl-select to select any number
of requests with the same status, then right-click one of them and select an action to apply the action to
all the selected. You can also use an action icon on the toolbar for the same purpose.
9
Configuration options
New configuration options provide the ability to customize the Request Manager.
l Retract icon - You can hide or display the Retract action icon once a request is approved. Hiding this
icon clarifies user choices when the Retract icon would otherwise appear alongside the Cancel icon.
l Configure default display - You can configure Request Manager so that when it opens it shows only
the requests with the statuses you specify. You can specify this default view based on any status, any
combination of statuses, or all statuses. After Request Manager is open the manager can adjust the
display similarly.
Employee Calendar
Several enhancements have been added to the user interface for open shifts and requests:
l Request actions can be performed by using the icons on the actions bar. You can configure these icons
to appear in the desired order. All action icons are always displayed, rather than some being hidden
under a More ... button as in previous versions.
10
l You can right-click on a request to cancel it or get full details.
l When more than one request occurs on the same day, a new indicator appears, + (#) more with (#)
indicating the number of hidden requests for that day. Click the text or the arrow to see the individual
requests. You can then right-click an individual request to cancel it or get more detailed information.
11
Request enhancements
Changes here apply to the workspaces accessible from both the employee calendar and the request
manager.
12
Request to Cover enhancements
l In addition to working with full shifts, Request to Cover now allows an employee to give away a
portion of their shift.
l An indicator is displayed to show that shift details are available.
