There are many steam boiler accidents in the tofu and similar industries that have claimed lives.

The
purpose of this study is to analyze the risk assessment of work accidents in the operation of boilers in
the Sari Sari Klaten Factory and Pak Bero Sukoharjo Tofu Factory. This research is an observational study.
The object of this research is the boiler. The subjects of this study were the coordinator and operator of
the boiler. Primary data obtained from observations and interviews, while secondary data from
company documents. The results showed that boilers in Factories 1 and 2 had 1 unit each. Hazard
identification results obtained 10 hazard findings in the boiler operating area. The findings of danger in
the boiler operation area are noise, hot weather, sparks, collisions, water vapor leakage, high pressure,
electric current, contact with hot steam pipes, oil spills, exposure to smoke and slipping. Risk assessment
on the operation of boiler plant 1 obtained 4 categories of low risk, 5 categories of medium risk, and 3
categories of high risk. And from factory 2 obtained 5 medium risk categories, 4 high risk categories, and
1 extreme risk category. The assessment of risk control in the operation of boiler plant 1 found 2 hazards
in the control value category very well, 7 hazards in the control value category were implemented well,
and 2 hazards in the control value category were implemented quite well. While at factory 2, the risk
control assessment at the operation found 2 hazards in the control value category were quite good, 4
hazards in the control value category were implemented poorly, and 4 hazards in the control value
category were implemented poorly. Residual risk assessment on the operation of boiler plant 1 found 1
residual risk no risk category, and 9 residual risk low risk categories. While the residual risk assessment
on the operation of boiler plant 2 found 5 remaining risks in the low risk category, and 5 remaining risks
in the medium risk category. Suggestions for factories should be held training for workers, more
complete PPE and conduct regular maintenance, provide safety signs and safety valves, provide
insulators on cables and provide a special place for a safe boiler.
