CONTEXT
ABC Day Nursery has been established for over thirty years and
accommodates children aged 0-5 years. Located in a residential area,
close to local primary schools, bus routes and walking distance from
Bognor town centre. We have ample parking for your convenience to
access our facilities.

Set in a specially adapted detached property, with a large south facing

secure garden, ABC Day Nursery offers flexible high-quality care, between
the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m, Monday to Friday, all year round.

The setting is divided into three well equipped areas, under 2’s, 2-3’s and
3-5’s, thus enabling all children who attend the setting to access equipment
suited to their age and stage of development.

AIM
Our primary aim at ABC Day Nursery is to offer a home from home,
stimulating and inclusive environment for all children to enjoy, play and
learn.
OBJECTIVE
Our objective is to offer an safe and happy environment where children feel
welcome, and with a high staff/child ratio each child will be given plenty of
individual care and attention.

All practitioners in the setting set an example by being a good role model,
we encourage the children in our care to respect each other, and adults in
the setting

Staff plan to ensure a range of equipment and activities are available to

accommodate children’s individual interests.

The daily routine encourages children to choose and develop

independence and is supported by the experienced staff

The nursery offers a open door policy, we aim to support families who
attend our setting, signposting if necessary to enable children and their
families to get additional help if needed
ABC DAY NURSERY POLICIES
The nursery is registered with OFSTED (Registration number 113343). Our
recent inspection report is available on request ,and available online at
WWW..OFSTED.GOV.UK
All nursery practitioners are qualified to a minimum Level 3 childcare
qualification, and attend ongoing training. The majority of the staff have
been employed at the setting for many, many years, and have a wealth of
knowledge and experience.

Staff attend ongoing child protection and first aid training, as shown in our
policy documents (available to read on our web site
WWW.ABCDAYNURSERYBOGNOR.COM)
Details of all our policies and other documentation is available at all times
in the setting
PREVENT DUTY
All practitioners, volunteers and students at ABC DAY NURSERY aim to
actively promote fundamental British values, equality and diversity and set
standards for learning and developing children’s personal, social and
emotional development and their understanding of the world. We observe
and remain alert to changes in Childs behaviour and aim to work effectively
with parent/carers. If concerns arise, we have responsibility to make a
referral to the Local safeguarding children board (LSCB)

The use of i-pads in our setting are used occasionally and are not linked to
the internet, these are solely used to support our curriculum, the children
can only access interactive games and activities, downloaded by staff
members.
SESSION BOOKING
We suggest that parents consider booking a minimum of 2 sessions per
week, to help your child settle as quickly as possible, build attachments and
gain the most from their time at nursery. However, we understand this is
not always possible due to financial restraints and availability of places
within the setting.

On confirmation of spaces, we will arrange visits for you and your child, to
come into the nursery before starting, to meet the practitioners who will be
caring for your child.
FREE ENTITLEMENT
All children get free entitlement funding the term AFTER their 3rd birthday,
totalling 570 hours a year.

This equates to 11 hours per week, as we are open all year

Working parents of children aged 3+ may qualify for additional free

childcare, equivalent to 22 hours per week (as open all year), if they meet
the required criteria. Full details on how to apply can be found on the
government website www.childcarechoices.gov.uk

ABC Day Nursery is also eligible to accept 2 year old funding, to find out
whether you qualify to receive 2 year old funding and for application form
go online to www.westsussex.gov.uk/freechildcare

FREE ENTITLEMENT hours can be used any day, Monday to Friday

between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Start time no later than 9.00
a.m, finish time no earlier than 3.00 p.m

A percentage of spaces will be held back throughout the year to

accommodate the transition of children already attending nursery

signed (see price list attached). Children who only attend for the free
entitlement hours are not required to pay a deposit.

The deposit will be deducted from the final bill, unless outstanding
payments due.

The deposit is non-returnable if you later decided to decline your child’s

place.
LATE PAYMENTS CHARGE
If a child is collected late, then ratios may be exceeded and staff may have
to stay on beyond the end of their shift. When this occurs we will pass this
cost on to the parent. A flat fare, for every 10 minutes over will be charged.
(see price list attached)

PAYMENT OF FEES

Payments are due from the first day of attendance, and payable in
advance weekly, fortnightly or monthly (TO BE AGREED ON
ACCEPTANCE OF SESSIONS)
In times of difficulty please inform office staff, namely Jan or Corinne who
will endeavour to work out a suitable payment plan. Failure to make
regular payments may jeopardise your child’s place at nursery.

DISCOUNTS
A discount of 5% is available for parents who have more than one child
attending the setting.
COLLECTION TIMES
Parents have access to the building between the hours of 8.00 a.m and
5.30 p.m, as agreed with West Sussex County Council, OFSTED and for
insurance purposes. This also enables staff to make necessary checks for
opening and closing of the nursery. Children are not insured to be on the
premises before or after these times.

An early drop off fee, for every 10 minutes will be charged if children arrive
prior to their agreed times, and left by the parent. Parents who stay with
their child will not be charged, unless on a regular basis.

Children who are collected later than their agreed time, with or without
notification, a flat fare, for every 10 minutes over will be charged (see

payment record to ensure adequate levels of staffing.
We understand on occasions an early drop off or late collection is needed,
this must be agreed, and will be charged at the standard rate. (This is for
the hours between 8.00 a.m and 5.30 p.m) (see attached price list)

HOLIDAY DISCOUNTS
Discount of 20% is offered whilst a child is on holiday, for a maximum of 2
FULL weeks per year, as long as it is booked in advance.

attendance. Payment is still due if your child is absent due to sickness

BANK HOLIDAYS
The nursery is closed on bank holidays and no charge will be made

NOTICE
One month’s notice is required, in writing, if you wish to withdraw your child
from the setting. If no notice is given the retainer will not be returned (see
attached price list)
All who are employed in the setting work to the statutory framework
for the Early Years Foundation Stage, which is mandatory for all early
years providers.

FRAMEWORK FOR THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION

STAGE
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that
enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early
years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major
impact on their future life chances.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early
years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well
and are kept healthy and safe. The EYFS seeks to provide:

• quality and consistency

• a secure foundation
• partnership working
• equality of opportunity

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

There are seven areas of learning and development of which educational

programmes in all childcare settings must offer through activities and
experiences. This evidence is documented in each child’s learning journal
which is shared with parents. The seven areas covered are:

• communication and language

• physical development
• personal, social and emotional development
• literacy
• mathematics
• understanding the world
• expressive arts and design

Each child in the setting is assigned a key worker. The key worker must
ensure that every child’s learning and care is tailored to meet their
individual needs.
Parents information

It is our policy to ensure that we welcome each child and their family
irrespective of their cultural background. Children will be given a friendly
warm welcome into each room with a variety of stimulating activities to
accommodate all interests. We offer a flexible visiting arrangement for new
children tailored to each child’s needs, and this will be discussed during the
first visit.

We hope that the contents of this booklet has been helpful.

Please contact us for further information or to arrange a visit.

We look forward to meeting you
