REACHING FOR THE STARS

Last week in Friday Fix we remembered the flight of the Space Shuttle. I was
inspired to include that story after reading Steven Bolt's new book "Trajectory".

So let's continue with our example of the flight of the Space Shuttle and the
lessons it offers us on our Journey of Abundance. We've already discussed the fact
that the Space Shuttle needs a lot of fuel to overcome inertia and get moving -
just like we do as we begin moving toward our goals and dreams.

Now let's consider what happens after lift off. You see, despite all of the fuel it
has already used, the Space Shuttle now needs evn more fuel to gain the speed and
momentum it needs to break through the earth's gravitational forces.

Once again, this offers us a powerful lesson on our Journey of Abundance -

especially once we've lifted off for our goals and dreams - our stars. It has been
my experience that one of the biggest mistakes we make that sets us up for
scarcity, for not achieving our goals, and for not keeping our resolutions is
simply the fact that we forget that we need more fuel once we get started.

Reflect back to previous years. How often have you gotten off to a great start in
the New Year only to begin to fizzle by the time February rolls around?

Just like the Space Shuttle would start to fizzle and eventually fall (or crash)
back to earth if it did not have enough fuel - so will we fizzle in our actions
toward our goals and dreams when we do not have enough fuel for this stage in our
Journey. You must expect to encounter resistance or gravitational forces and
prepare yourself accordingly by fueling up adequately for the Journey. It is often
our lack of an adequate fuel supply that often has us set the same New Year
resolutions year after year (you know, our "this year will be different" mentality)
only to never achieve them.

Can you imagine NASA telling the astronauts that they have enough fuel for lift-off
but after that they'll have to get there on their own? Of course not! Yet that is
exactly what we do to ourselves far too often. We invest our time and money in
attending a workshop or having a coach or getting books and tapes - and these get
us started. Then - once we've gotten ourselves moving, we tell ourselves that we
shouldn't need to and/or can't afford to take more workshops, get more coaching,
get new books and tapes to "fuel up" and support us. As a result, we eventually
fall back and then have to overcome inertia all over again! (Believe me, this is
not the way of abundance.)

So - go ahead and set your resolutions, goals and dreams. This year really can be
different - that is, if you're willing to make sure you have the fuel you need for
your journey. Whenever you set a new goal or begin to move toward a dream, you will
need to overcome inertia. And, if you succeed in doing that, you will immediately
begin to encounter gravitational forces that will try to pull you back down.

These gravitational forces can come from within you in the form of your scarcity
thoughts, beliefs and patterns. They can also come from outside of you in the form
of naysayers, rejection, skepticism, people not supporting you, people doubting
you, etc. These external gravitational forces can also take the form of
distractions like emergencies, schedule conflicts, having to clean your home or
office first, getting sick - you name it.

Encountering these gravitational forces on the Journey of Abundance is to be

expected - it's a normal part of the process. Unfortunately, at this point in the
process, far too many people confuse gravity with scarcity. You may be one of them.
Once you get launched toward your goals and you begin to encounter these
gravitational forces, you may begin to doubt yourself, think that you really
shouldn't have set that goal or that it's not really a very important dream, that
you can't do it, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

It's at this point - just when you need to purchase additional fuel to break
through these gravitational forces - that you might give up on your goal and/or
settle. Because you confuse gravity with scarcity you respond with more scarcity.
You stop taking action or take more desperate action, you withdraw, you
procrastinate, and/or you stop learning and dreaming.

The future can be different, however. Go ahead and set your goals and resolutions.
Dream your dreams. Aim for the stars. As you do so, remember the importance of
having an adequate supply of fuel. Before you begin, make sure you've purchased and
set up the fuel supply you'll need - of energy, enthusiasm, motivation, coaching,
training and support.

With your destination in mind and your fuel needs abundantly met, it's simply a
matter of time until you "reach the stars"! And the Journey will be fulfilling and
abundant as well!

Got enough fuel?
