Engaging Schools realizes that many students struggle with emotions and negative

behaviors including academic mindsets. The program provides both students and educators with

support. Its mission is to engage middle and high school educators to form a firm structure of

learning culture. It encourages all teachers and staff to join this learning culture that is focused

on educating, all while actively engaging with, respectfulness of each other and teach a

welcoming atmosphere. Its main component is having a caring and sensitive approach for all

participants. As educators and student collaborate to successfully teach social-emotional

competencies they create a strong bond of reliability on each other building relationships.

Through my analysis of Engaging Schools, it appears to have nurtured positive habits of learning

in students’ academic mindsets which develops positive outcomes academically.

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention completed a study which resulted in

effective treatment for children with disruptive behavior problems. Disruptive behavior disorders

consist of oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder place children in a position that

leads to detrimental affects in the future. As children grow some experience mental disorders,

they may become violent end engage in misconduct. It is vital for children to have the correct

medical care. The CDC conducted a study of twelve-year-old children for 1998 through 2018,

who were divided into groups by management of behaviors, attitudes, managing feelings, play

therapy and how children view others (2019). The study furthered its research by dividing

children into groups or individual therapy for children. It included parent therapy or child

therapy in its study (2019). Through the research evidence exposed the fact of the most effective

treatment for children with disruptive behavior disorders were “group parent behavior therapy

and individual parent behavior therapy with child participation” (CDC, p. 5, 2019). It is clear that

parent participation is key for children, since parents participate in training with an expert

therapist. The therapists teach “learning strategies to create structure, reinforce good behavior,

provide consistent discipline, and strengthen the relationship with their child through positive

communication” (CDC, p. 7, 2019). Through my analysis behavioral parent training has proven

to be effective in families. I found it is vital for children to have full time guidance since schools

offer these strategies through professionals in the classroom, it is important that these same

tactics are in place in the home as well to offer a full range of guidance.
