0.- Introduction
The goal of this manual is the installation of a linux server with Oracle Linux 6.6, suitable for installing later
an Oracle database.

The data needed for installing are:

Installation Language: EN_UK Time Zone: Europe / London

Partitioning Device LVM Name Mount Point Size FileSystem

/dev/sda1 /boot 1 Gb ext4

/dev/sda2 vg00 1023 Gb

lvol01 swap 20 Gb swap

lvol02 / 100 Gb ext4

lvol03 /internal 200 Gb ext4

lvol04 /backups 700 Gb ext4

Hostname: tarsys01

Network interfaces

Interface: eth0 IP: 192.168.1.1 Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.254

Interface: eth1 IP: 192.168.1.2 Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.254

Interface: eth2 IP: 192.168.1.3 Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.254

1.- Installation

With the DVD inside the server, we start the installation process.

We can skip the testing media process.

1.1.- Local settings

We select the language that we can use during the installation.

We select the appropiate keyboard for the system.

1.2.- Hostname and network configuration

We select “Specialized Storage Devices” and push the “Next” button.

We define the hostname and push in the “Configure Network” button to start the network configuration.

In the “Network Connections” window we select the network interface that we want to configure and then
we push the “Edit…” button.

We need to mark the “Connect automatically” option.

In the "IPv4 Settings” tab we configure the network.

1.3.- Partitioning Hard Disks

We select “Create Custom Layout” option and press “Next” button.

We need to create 1Gb partition to the /boot mount point, and a LVM partition that contain the remaining
partitions.

We select the “Free” device and push the “Create” button.

We select “Standard Partition” option and push the “Create” button.

In the “Add Partition” window the data are:

Mount Point: /boot

File System Type: ext4

Size: 1024 Mb

We select the “Free” device and push the “Create” button to create the LVM partition.

We select “LVM Physical Volume” option and push the “Create” button.

In the “Add Partition” window the data are:

File System Type: physical volume (LVM)

Size: 1047551 Mb

Now we need to create the Logical LVM volumes that contain the remaining partitions. We select the
“physical volumen (LVM)” and push the “Create” button.

We select “LVM Volume Group” option and push the “Create” button.

We define the “Volume Group Name” as: vg00

We need to push the “Add” button and add the following partitions:

lvol01 swap 20 Gb swap

lvol02 / 100 Gb ext4

lvol03 /internal 200 Gb ext4

lvol04 /backups 700 Gb ext4

First, we add the swap partition, and the data are:

Mount Point:

File System Type: swap

Logical Volume Name: lvol01

Size: 20480 Mb

Second, we add the / (root) partition, and the data are:

Mount Point: /

File System Type: ext4

Logical Volume Name: lvol02

Size: 102400 Mb

Next, we add the /internal partition, and the data are:

Mount Point: /internal

File System Type: ext4

Logical Volume Name: lvol02

Size: 204800 Mb

Finally, we add the /backups partition, and the data are:

Mount Point: /bakups

File System Type: ext4

Logical Volume Name: lvol04

Size: 723964 Mb

In the software selection we only select the “Database Server” and the “Oracle Linux Server” and “UEK3
repo kernel” repositories.
