The journal is to be kept over a four week period and the following procedures are to be
performed:
Cleaning a cats environment
This activity is to focus on the cleaning of the cats environment, particularly litter
tray procedures and bedding cleanliness and maintenance
Cleaning a dogs environment
This activity is to focus of cleaning the dogs environment, particularly the toileting
area and maintaining clean and adequate bedding
Cleaning the facility – mopping floors
This activity should focus on the procedure of mopping a floor, the type of mop and
bucket, considerations when mopping etc
Details Gloves were worn to protect hands from chemical usage and any bodily excretions that
may need to be disposed off.
All bedding (towel and ‘fluffy’) were removed from his cage and checked to ensure no
faeces or other solid debris was on it, and then placed in the laundry basket; if, for
example faeces was present this would have to be removed prior to placing bedding in
laundry container.
The cat litter tray was removed and it was noted that he had passed faeces and urine in
the tray; the used litter and faeces and urine was then placed into a plastic bag; this
was performed by using a scoop and holding the litter tray over the bag, the contents
were scooped directly into the bag. The litter tray was then sprayed with dilute
disinfectant – F10.
Food and water bowls were removed (again noting that he had eaten all his food) and
placed in warm soapy water.
Once the cage was empty, it was washed with soapy water to remove any surface dirt
and larger debris; this was done by wiping with paper towel so that the debris was
picked up by the towel and can be immediately disposed off.
The cage was then sprayed with dilute disinfectant; 1:1000 dilution and left for the
contact time required of 2 mins. Food and water bowls were washed and the litter tray
rinsed whilst the disinfectant had contact time with the cage.
The next stage was to rinse the cage to ensure that all residual disinfectant is removed
– this was performed spraying with tepid water and then wiping dry with paper towels.
The cage was then checked to ensure fully dry, prior to placing fresh bedding in it.
Gloves were immediately disposed of in the bin

Step1: ensure the cats are placed in another room. The cat environment I need to clean
is the living room, where they spend most of their time in.
Step2) I put on the gloves, which is PPE , it protects me from dirt, urine, feaces and
other chemicals.Take the receptacles , clean the with dish soap and water , dry them
with paper towel, then put aside.
Step3) Take out her beddings and washable toys from the carrier, check whether there
is any urine and feaces on it. (there isn’t in this case) then i place them into the laundry
basket. Fill the washing machine with laundry liquid and laundry disinfectant. Turn on
the washing machine, have the items washed in cold water for 30mins. [this is mainly
because my cats aren’t sick]
Step4) Check whether there is feaces or Urine on the carrier, there isn’t. then I spray
diluted F10 thoroughly onto the Carrier
Step 5) Clean the litterbox: Scoop the tofu litter, the clumped urine and feaces from the
litterbox into a plastic rubbish bag. Seal the plastic rubbish bag , and throw it into the
garbage bin that’s out of my apartment. Spray Dilute F10 thoroughly onto the litter
Step6) Spray Diluted F10 onto the table that my cats like to sit on daily. Let it sit for
15mins.
Step 7) Clean floor: first sweep the floor from derbis, mop the floor with diluted F10
(1:500) let it dry.
Step 8) Take the carrier into the shower, rinse the carrier thoroughly, dry the carrier via
paper towels. Place the carrier to where it belongs.
Step 9) Take the litterbox into the shower, rinse the litterbox thoroughly, dry the
litterbox via paper towels. Refill the litterbox with tofu litter to appropriate levels, put
the litterbox to where it belongs
Step10) fill the water receptacle with water and put both of the receptacles back to
where the belongs
Step10) after the washing cycle ended, take out the beddings and put them into the
dryer until its thoroughly dried, then place them back to where they belong.
Go and grab the laundry, Air dry the dog's belongings, including the dog bedding at well ventilated spaces and place
everything back to where they belongs
Last, fill filtered water into the dog's water receptacle.

s BB is 2 years old female desexed Domestic Shorthair.
Because BB is diagnosed of chronic diarrhoea in the past, she was suggested by her vet to have
“Royal Canin Gastro Intestine” dry Kibble daily for her diet.
his diet is highly palatable, have animal protein as main ingredient, along with necessary amount of
vitamins, minerals and taurine. The ingredients also contain good quality animal protein, which is
essential for helping the cats’ digestion.
According to the feeding guide of the manufacturer, BB weight 3kg, she is not too fat and not too
thin thus should be given 42 grams of drying kibble daily.
BB is fed twice a day. 7am and 7pm respectively. She usually finish all of her kibbles.
Given BB’s weight is 3kg. Her daily water consumption is 120ml – 180ml (given normally cat’s daily
water consumption is 40-60ml/ kg.
Then I take out the measuring cup, pour filtered clean water into it and stop at the 180ml mark.
After ensuring 180ml water is in the measuring cup, I pour the water from measuring cup to the
the stainless steel water receptacle.
Both Water and Food receptacles are stainless steel bowls that can be put on an elevated holder.
An elevated holder helps the cat eating more comfortably, I also noticed BB eat more after using an
elevated one. Stainless steel is used because it don’t break like glass or ceramic bowls. I don’t want
to use a plastic bowl as it cannot be cleaned via hot water, as a plastic melt when hot water is
used. But I can clean stainless steel via hot water and soap without concern in material melting.
BB is usually around when I put the water and food receptacles onto the receptacle stand. I will
pick her up and place her in front of the filled receptacles to encourage her to eat. BB usually feel
safer when I look at her when she is eating, thus I would be behind her while she is eating.
Usually I point at the water receptacle first, then she will know the water receptacle has been
cleaned, dried and filled with clean water again. BB will drink a bit before eating her dry kibble.
Usually after 30mins BB will finish her meal, then I will soak both the food bowl and the scale
container into soapy water , then rinse it and dry with paper towels.

Her wet food receptacle is a flat stainless steel plate, its chosen as it is a durable
material, and fafa seemed able to eat better
if a flat dish is used. I place the dish next to the kitchen door, where Fafa usually have
her meals.
THen i would drain out the existing water from the plastic receptacle and put filtered
room temperature water into the receptacle.
This type of plastic receptacle is used as the owner have three cats in the house, and
they share the same water receptacle.
the plastic bottle can hold up to 750ml. Three of the cats are around 3kg. Thus their
water consumption is definitely less than 750ml.
This help the owner to estimate roughly how much water did their cats drink daily.
To encourage the Fafa to eat, her wet food is served in room temperature.
Around 11:45am and 11:45pm, her remained wet food in the fridge will be reheated by
steam roughly 5 minutes and left in room
temperature for 10 mins to let the food go down to room temperature.
For disposal of uneaten food, i swipe off the remained food in the steel plate with a
tissue, throw away the tissue and the wet can into general rubbish bin.
Then wash the steel plate with soap

Details Bob is a 12 years old medium size Mongol that have Pseudo-anorexia and lethargic. He
is currently 15kg. His Purina body weight score is 2.
for this health condition, the vet have suggested Bob to have wet food multiple times a
day. Usually dogs have two meals per day, Spreading meal times throughout the day
will help bob eat more without making him feel sick. He is currently having 6 meals per
day.
Wet food is more enticing and can help dogs in gaining weight.
Finding a quiet and less foreign feeding area with fixed feeding times.
Because Bob’s Body condition score is less than 7. (his BCS is 3), thus the body
weight used in here to calculate his RER is his optimal weight, rather than his
current weight.

Details Dogs are Omnivore, they require diets that is mixture of plant and meat
50% carb, 5.5% fat 10% protein, 2.5-4.5 FIbre
Dry Dog kibble from Petission is chosen as Bobo’s main food.
Feeding receptable,
Water receptable is in plastic , Owner find it easy to put a distilled bottled in it originally
to measure his dogs daily water consumption, but as time goes bsy, he stopped buying
distilled bottle water for sustainable reasons (less plastic used).
the receptable is continued in use as they don’t have another one so far. Thus pre-
measurements of water is made.
Bobo is 18 pounds(8.16kg) in weight. Normally dog drnks 40-60 mls/kg/day.
thus 326ml-489.6ml per day. Thus he should be drinking 490ml per day.

down dry kibble into general waste bin.
