perfect gift project. It also looks
good on both me and my mom
which NEVER happens, so it's pretty
much a magic hat.

Materials
67 (75)yd (61 [70]m) / 1 ball Cascade Lana Grande (100% peruvian highland wool, each
approximately 3½oz [100g] and 87yd [79.5m], CYCA 6, super bulky.
2 size 15 (10mm) circular needles, 20'' (51cm), or size needed to obtain gauge
Stitch marker

Gauge
11 stitches and 12 rows = 4'' (10cm) in 1x1 rib

Notes
*I suggest using 2 circulars, rather than dpns, because I found my
stitches always falling off the ends of my dpns.
*To work with 2 circulars, distribute stitches evenly over each needle.
Call one “needle A” and the other “needle B.” Use needle A to work
the stitches of needle A, and use needle B to work the stitches of
needle B.

k2tog knit 2 together: Insert right hand needle into second and then
first stitch on left hand needle, then knit both together – 1 stitch decreased with a right-side,
right-slanting decrease.
p purl
RS right side (the public side of the garment)

HAT
Long-tail cast on 44 (48) stitches.
Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist cast-on edge. Place marker to denote
beginning of rnd.
Work 1x1 rib (*k1, p1; repeat from * to end) in rnds until hat measures 4½ (5)'' (11.5 [12.5]cm).
First decrease rnd *Work 8 (9) stitches, k2tog (ssk or skp), work 9 (10) stitches, ssk or skp;
repeat from * once.
Second decrease rnd *Work 8 (9) stitches, k2tog; repeat from * 3 times more.
Repeat second decrease rnd, working 1 fewer stitch between decreases each rnd, until 8 stitches
remain.
Cut yarn. Thread tapestry needle through last 8 stitches, remove needles and pull taut.

FINISHING
Peak
With WS facing, pick up and knit 23 (25) stitches across rim of hat.
The peak is worked on the WS to create a ridge on the RS.
Beginning and ending with p1, work 1x1 rib for 1 (RS) row.
Next (decrease) row (WS) Ssk (or skp), work to last 2 stitches, k2tog.
Repeat decrease row twice more, then bind off in rib.
