Answer all questions sequentially (Internal choice for each Question)

1. (a) If line frequency is N. What is the ripple frequency in HWR and FWR? 4M
(b) The single-phase half wave rectifier is supplied from a 240-V, 50-Hz source
through the step-down transformer with turns ratio n = 10 : 1. The load resistance
RL is 5 Ω. Determine (i) average output voltage Vo(av), (ii) average load
current Io(av), (iii) rms load voltage Vo(rms), (iv) rms load current Io(rms), (v) ripple
factor (vi) the rms ripple voltage Vr(rms), (vii) PIV of the diode, (viii) frequency
ripple voltage. 6M

2. (a) What is Clipper? 2M
(b) If vS = 5 sin (2000 πt), E1 = 2 V and R = 10 kΩ, plot (i) the output voltage vO(t) as
a function of time. Assume a diode voltage drop of VD = 0.7 V. Repeat part (i) if
the diode is ideal. 8M

3. In a voltage divider bias circuit βF = 100, VBE = 0.7 V, VCC = 20 V, R1 = 30 kΩ,


R2 = 10 kΩ, RC = 5 kΩ and RE = 2 kΩ. Plot the DC load line and locate the saturation,
cut-off and the Q-point. M10

4. (a) Draw the high frequency hybrid π-model of a BJT. 2M
(b) Discuss the frequency response of a RC coupled amplifier in Low frequency
region. 8M

5. (a) What is the unity-gain bandwidth of an op-amp? 2M
(b) Design an amplifier using µA741, with the following specifications: 8M
(i) Ri = 2 MΩ
(ii) Ro = 75 Ω
(iii) Vo = 400 Vs, where Vs = 10 Sin 2000 πt mV and also plot the Vs and Vo
signals.

6. Derive an expression of the output voltage if R2 = R3, R1 = R4, and RF = R5. 10M

7. (a) Show that for a Current-Series feedback amplifier, the input and output
impedance increases by a factor of 1 + Aβ. 10M
(b) For certain Naval application, SONAR waves are to be generated. Design an
oscillator to generate these SONAR waves from the oscillators you know. The
frequency of these SONAR waves generated is 200 KHz. Justify the selection of
oscillator. 10M

8. (a) A series fed class A amplifier is shown in the figure. The a.c. input signal causes a
base current swing of 7 mA peak. Calculate (i) Q point (ii) DC input power
(iii) A.C. output power (iv) Efficiency (v) Power dissipation. 10M

(b) Using 555 timer, design an astable multivibrator so that k = 80% and fo = 5 KHz. 10M
