construction).
“It has been planned to ensure vehicles move at the same speed. Precaution has also
been taken that the beauty of the Bhakti Shakti sculpture is not marred by the flyover.
The crash barriers of the flyover will be kept at the same level as that of the base of the
sculpture so that the commuters travelling by bus or other vehicles over the flyover can
see it,” said Bhojane.
About the progress of the project, he added, “The construction work will be completed
by December 2020. Of 17 piers, we have completed casting of six piers up to bottom
of pier cap. Up to 37% of the physical work has been completed.”
Bhakti Shakti Flyover Project, Nigdi (A glimpse from the site)
The project kicked off on 27th June 2017 and is estimated to get commisioned by
December 2020.
Concrete of grade M40, M50, M55 were used at site. Wash sand was used as an
ingredient of concrete, aggregate of 10 and 20 mm were used .
Shuttering used is of mild steel. Cribs were used for staging of flyover, MS pipe for
bracing, U-Jack and B-Jack are also used. Flyash is used for high grade concrete.
The contract is a lump-sum contract. In pile foundation, pile are provided of height
8.5 metre and the height of pile cap provided is 1.2 metre. The project included the
construction of flyover containing 19 pier (18 span), the length of each span is 30
metre. The rotary part is provided in the centre of 40 metre span. Flyover consist of
1 km of grade separator.
M40 grade concrete is used in foundation. M50 grade concrete is used in column and
pier and M55 grade concrete is used for flyover concretting. The maximum height of
pier is 10 metre.
Pre stressed post tensioned box girder of M40 grade are used. Approach slab of
300mm thickness and 3 metre width is constructed. The project consist of 4 pedestrian
underpass and 1 foot over bridge. The median provided on the flyover is 1.2 metre.
The flyover is constructed in three parts, first is soffit, second is web and third is deck
slab of 350 mm thickness. The slope of 2.5% is provided.
Most of the flyoveris on the verge of completion, access ways and other roadways
are not yet constructed. In the grade separator after the subgrade, a layer of 250 mm
GSB is provided on which a layer of WMM of 150 mm thickness is provided, on top
of that 50 mm thickness DBM is done and final layer of 40 mm BC will be provided.
Expansion joints are provided after every 3 spans. The flyover had 4 lanes, 2 lanes on
each side. The total length of carriage way is 17.5 metre.
Conclusion: The visit to this particular site taught us about the standard operating
procedures (SOP) involved in construction of flyover, how it saves time as well
control over cost and budget of the same.
Safety measures for height work, risks involved in construction of such flyover were
understood. The estimated time, requirement of resources were studied after the visit
to the site.
