RE: Borehole Water Pumping; Kithino Area, Tunyai Location, Tharaka Nithi South,
Tharaka County
Dear Sir
Please find attached a revision of our earlier quote
1. The drillers report show the pumping water level (PWL) as about 15 M. Add to this 15 M for the
elevated water tank, 10 M to cover for the friction losses in the ɸ2.5” pipe and 10M as an extra.
This brings the Total dynamic head (TDH) to 50 M.
2. We have assumed that the client already has a 5.5 KW pump. We have based our thoughts on this
being a Pedrollo 6SR 12/11 pump and motor. This is capable of 19 Cubic Metres at a TDH of 50 M.
Were the pumping water level to fall, so will the throughput.
3. We have assumed that the inverter will be placed as close to the solar PV modules as possible and
there is a maximum of 25 M between the inverter and the well head.
4. When installing the pump we will attach the Lovato well probes and these will switch off the pump
when the borehole water drops to an acceptable depth.
5. We have included a float switch to be placed on the overhead tank (which will be installed by
others) and to stop the pump whenever the overhead tank is full.
6. The solar field is designed with 2 strings each with 17 PV modules. The 11.22 KWp of the solar field
presents about 2X the power needed by the motor and I necessary because in normal solar
conditions the best the solar field can do is less than the 11.22 KWp.
7. For the pump to start four conditions must be met; (a) adequate sun, (b) borehole well probes
indicate adequate water, (c) delivery tank float valve senses there’s space and (d) system remains
switched on.
8. We have included a changeover arrangement that will allow the operator to run the power using
KPLC whenever the water supplied by solar is inadequate.
Performance curve
Yours Sincerely
