INTRODUCTION

Cattle or cows are the most common type of large domesticated ungulates. Cattle are commonly raised
as livestock for milk and manure and fuel in India.

Cows are worshipped as mother in India.

Cows are very useful animals as they give us food in the form of milk.

Fuel in the form of dung disks ( uplas in local language).

Manure can be made from cow dung.

Cow's urine is used for making medicines.

Nowadays, we can see Cattles roaming on roads and streets etc. Because when they are of no use for
humans we the humans let them to stray on roads. This is very unfaithful and unhuman behavior from
us towards animals.
To solve such problems I came up with the idea of a prototype cattle infrastructure complex.

This project will help the cattles by providing them a good living environment, by providing them food,
shelter, and medical facilities.

This project will be one of its type, as the infrastructure which we are going to provide to Cattles will be
such that easy functioning of the system with minimum labour.

The living environment for cows will be such that they will love to live there.

The prototype I am designing be a well planned complex for cattles to stay and all facilities will be
provided to them like food, shelter, and medical facilities.

This prototype is a self governing program, where the funds ( money) will be generated from the cattles
for the fluent working of the system.

Utilising the resources from cattles at the best , you can have fresh milk from the milch cattle, the value
addition of milk in producing various products that can be sold. The dung can be used as manure and by
converting it into compost, and selling it you can earn good money, drought cattles can be used for
agricultural activities, like tilling, irrigation, and carting.

The working of the prototype stray cattle infrastructure complex will be simply like for the cattle by the
cattle.

MOTIVATION

As we see in society the ill condition of cows, cows roaming here and there in search of food, searching
food in the bins, eating paper and plastics, when they don't get to eat anything.
The condition is even worse the helpless stray cows often come in contact with vehicles on roads and get
hurt, many times they get severe damage and even get killed in road accidents.

As people are shifting from villages to cities they throw out their cattles to starve on roads.

People feed the cattles till they are beneficial for them, afterwards when they are of no use they let them
to stray.

This is raising the problem of stray cattles both in urban and rural areas.

This is not only problem for cattles but also for humans as the stray animals spread waste all over, and
often they hit people on streets.

The stray cattles are easy prey for slaughter houses, and in India cows are worshipped as mother, these
all were the problem that the stray cattles are facing and the inconvenience caused by them to human
beings.

This thing struck my mind I decided to plan a project to get rid of all these problems.

How we are going to solve these problems, by planning a Infrastructure complex for cattles, where they
can spend a peaceful and comfortable life .

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH WORK

Cattles we can classify on two basic types:

On the basis of gender

And on the basis of lactation (the secretion of milk by the mammary glands).

ON THE BASIS OF GENDER

Male cows(ox) and Female cows

ON THE BASIS OF LACTATION

Lactating cows (who are giving milk with high quantity).

Pregnant cows (cows carrying babies).

Heifers (young cow, which have not yet given birth to calf).

The shelters we are going to design will be planned in the way that cattles get accommodation according
their classification which means separate shelters for different cattles.

Like pregnant cattles need more safety, during their pragnancy period and their diet plan is also different
so it's better to keep them in separate shelters for proving them extra care and safety.

The shelters will be designed according to the climate of the area by keeping in mind the local weather
and climatic factors, so that a pleasant micro climatic area can be formed for animals.

There will be units for stored water in the form of artificial pond and underground or overhead tanks,
with this water for cattles will be provided by means of water troughs.

Showers and fans will be provided for maintaining temperature.

The sheds will be designed by keeping in mind the factors like climate control, economy, easy execution,
and comfort of cattles.

On the availability of the area on the site we will plan pastures there or places to grow green grass for
cows there on the site.
One more important thing ( disposal of waste ) for this we need proper channel for :

Collection of waste

Transportation of waste

Disposal and treatment of waste

The waste will be collected from various places where cows will roam or sit and sleep, after this we need
to transport waste from collected places to the pits and chambers, where waste will be treated and
converted into manure.

Now a suitable place for placing the pits and chambers is also very important, so that waste can be easily
transported to there.

For ease in transportation we need open streets with large street width and solid pavement.

Medical facilities we need (a hospital with labs, operation theatre, and some basic facilities) Along with
this we need trained professionals.

For workers and employees serving there we will provide housing facility, rest rooms / bed rooms,
toilets, bathrooms, mess and garden, etc.
OBJECTIVES, SCOPE, AND LIMITATIONS

The aim of the project is to achieve a kind of design in landscaping and space management that it
creates a place best for cattles residing.

Utilising the cattles and by products at their best.

Our main objective is to plan places for cattles such as :

Pastures

Night shelters

Places for feeding

Places for cattles to tie in day

Medical facilities ( medical lab and vat clinical )

Along with this what we are going to design is proper collection and disposal of the cow waste.

As the cow dung is a very beneficial thing, we can convert it into manure which is very useful for
enhancing the fertility of soil.

For this we need proper pits or chambers for collection of cow dung.

Also we will find solutions to collect the urine of cattles, it is also very beneficial in making medicines.

Store rooms for storing cattle food such as the grass, and other packed food items. (Pashu aahars)

Provision of water storage must has to be there, in the form of artificial ponds and tanks etc.

Housing facilities for those who are going to work in the complex.

SCOPE
Cattles can be used in many ways and are beneficial for human beings in many ways.

The milch cattles (cows that give us milk) dairy is very profitable business nowadays. Cattles are used to
produce milk, and which can be processed into dairy products such as cheese, curd and yogurt etc.

Another profitable and useful product is the dung which can be used to make manure and produce
energy by burning it after drying.

Also the cattles are very strong animal species that have a lot of force and power humans from centuries
are using cattles for agricultural activities tilling, irrigating the fields and for transporting the goods.

We can use the dry cattles by utilising their power in many ways, the bulls can be used for tilling the
fields by old plough method, as there are many places where we cannot use the tractors and people still
use old techniques of farming using the bulls. In this way we can utilise the power of bulls.

Also the dry animals can be used with carts for transporting goods such as in our complex for
transporting the fodder and other things that need to be shifted here and there can be transported using
the dry animals

LIMITATIONS

The maximum number of cattles he have to accommodate is 500 cattles. Separate spaces for pregnant
cows, heifers, dry cattles, newly born calves, and the infected animals, etc.

Milch cattles are profitable and they can raise enough capical to arrange the labour, fodder, and other
services for them, but the old cattles and dry cattles cannot do so, we have to find some ways to use the
dry cattles, by which we can also utilise them.

We have to manage and plan the space according to the needs of the animals, and for this we have to
understand the space requirements for different kinds of animals.

IF WE SEE THE SIMILAR KINDS OF PROJECTS THAT ARE PRESENTLY RUNNING IN THE SOCIETY,, THEY FACE
MANY PROBLEMS RAGARDING;

The availability of funds

Cleanliness and proper waste disposal

Lack of trained professionals and workers

Proper spaces for cattles

The availability of area is less and number of cattles is more is many cases a8nd vice versa, means no
proper governing of such societies.
Many times cattles suffer from major diseases and do not get medical help on time, because there are
no routine medical checkups, and trained professionals.

Also what I feel a major limitation in designing such a place is understanding the elements animals need
and how to provide it to them in best way possible.

More focus we have to lay on designing and distributing spaces according to, as I have mentioned above.

We also need to find the space requirement for cattle shelters, where they are going to sleep, and other
places to create best place and environment for their living.

REQUIREMENTS

Housing management of cattles

Proper drainage system

Availability of water

Protection from rain, wind, and solar radiation

Protection from noise pollution and other disturbances

Transport facility, the site must be near to road and wide streets and roads must be there in the site.

Flexible designing according to needs of cattles

Environmental controlled structures, I will design structures the they meet the requirement of animals
and people living there by achieving comfortable living environment by comfortable air velocity,
insulation from high heat radiation, and temperature and humidity maintainance.

Labour control, use our animals for shifting goods and using them for doing small tasks in our complex.

Disease control, Cleanliness and proper dispose of waste at regular intervals.

BUILDING ANS SPACES WE NEED IN THE COMPLEX

Farm houses or the homestead for the people working in the complex.

Farm buildings or the farmstead for housing the cattles.

Farm store, meant for storage of feed materials and the tools and products.

Quarantine shed, located at the entrance of the complex meant for the checking of new cattles in farms,
if new cattles are free from diseases than only they join other cattles, otherwise they are treated first.

Isolation shed, it should be located away from the healthy animal sheds.

Medical area, labs and medical rooms for animals will be available there.

Units required inside the sheds

Feeding space

Manger, the small trough from which cattles feed.

Standing space

Gutter or drainage channel for transportation and collection of cattle urine

Milking parlor or barn, where the cows are milked either by hands or mechanically.

SOME MORE SPACES FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES

Down calver shed, for pregnant cattles where the spaces for sitting and standing are more than the
normal sheds.

Calf pen, meant for housing small young calves separately.

Heifer sheds, is meant for housing young heifers separately.

The same for dry animals and bulls separate sheds for milch and dry cows, sick and under treatment
cattles.

ACCESSORY BUILDINGS

Store room

Milk room

Hay or straw shed

CONCLUSION
At the end I would like to conclude that this project is a mixture of architecture and human morals,
which will help in the betterment of society by providing stray cattles a peaceful and lovely home with
best and pleasant environment.

In this project i am trying to put all my efforts so that I can create a place best for animals to live and
people to work.

This project can be successful only by animal human collaboration, this thing we will achieve with the
help of professionals who will be working there, they will work with animals teach them, train them
make a bond and environment cattles will get no where.

The same we will do with architectural design, we are designing keeping in mind all the aspects of
comfort of animals, nature of site, climatic factors, economy, sustainability, and easy execution.

For making a great design in this project, and making this project a success, we have to focus on space
planning and management, circulation, climate control, proper selection of techniques and material, and
keeping in mind the needs of cattles.
