A) In this document we explain, in detail, the steps required to upgrade an ASM instance
to release 11gR2 (11.2.0.1.0).
B) Note: Before start with the ASM Upgrade, please check the required hardware & OS
requirements in the next manual:
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/portal.portal_db?selected=11&frame=
Upgrade steps:
1) Verify the ASM instance & CSS service (11gR1 release) are present and running:
1.1) Verify the CSS (Cluster Synchronization Service) is up and running (connected as
“oracle” OS user) as follow:
1.2) Verify the ASM instance is up & the diskgroup(s) is/are mounted (connected as
“oracle” OS user first & then through SQL*Plus as “sysasm”) as follow:
2) Perform the steps 1 to 18.2 described in the “ASM 11gR2 Installation &
Configuration” presentation (ASM 11gR2 Installation & Configuration.pdf).
Note: Skip steps 8 to 13 from “ASM 11gR2 Installation & Configuration” presentation,
if the ASM/ASMLIB disks and diskgroups are currently present.

4) Select: Upgrade Grid Infrastructure & then press the [Next] button:

6) Select the desired languages & then press the [Next] button:
7) At the “Specify ASM Monitor Password” screen, provide the password (“oracle”) for
the ASMSNMP user & then press the [Next] button:
8) If you password does not conform the Oracle recommended standards then you will
receive the next warning, so you can just ignore it & press the [Yes] button:
9) Assign the OS groups for the ASM database Administrator, ASM Instance
Administrator Operator & ASM instance Administrator through the “Privileged
Operating System Groups” window, (for this example we will use dba OS group for the
3 ASM groups, but you are always welcome to specify different OS groups to enforce
more security and separate tasks & roles):
10) Since we are using the same OS role “dba” for the 3 authentication groups (OSDBA,
OSOPER & OSASM) then you will receive the next warning, so you can just ignore it &
press the [Yes] button:
11) Specify the Oracle Home & Oracle Base directories through the “Specify
Installation Location” window & then press the [Next] button:
13) Having all the OS & Hardware prerequisites are already set, OUI will display the
“Summary” screen, review it and press the [Finish] button to start with the ASM Upgrade
to 11.2 release:
16) Then return to the “Execute Configuration Scripts” window and press the [OK]
button:
18) Confirm the 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure Installation & ASM Upgrade completed
successfully, then press the [Close] button:
19) Verify the OHAS & CSS services are up and running:
20) Verify the CSS service is now running on the 11.2 Oracle Grid Infrastructure Oracle
Home:
21) Verify the ASM instance is up and running & running on the 11.2 Oracle Grid
Infrastructure Oracle Home:
22) Run the ASMCA through a graphical session and create the RECO diskgroup on the
ORCL:ASMDISK3 (/dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK3) ASMLIB disk:
22.2) Specify the Disk Group Name as RECO (as External redundancy diskgroup),
select the ORCL:ASMDISK3 disk (below), press the [Show Advanced Options] button to
display the AU & Compatibility attributes (these are modifiable but for this example we
are using the default values):
22.3) And finally press the [OK] button to create the RECO diskgroup:
22.4) Review the diskgroup creation (below) and press the [Exit] button:
23) Now the Oracle Grid Infrastructure was installed, OHAS service started & the ASM
Instance + CSS service were successfully upgraded to release 11.2.0.1.0.
