Flight Instructor Refresher Course - Helicopter

March 23, 24 and 25, 2011

Vancouver, BC
Presented by NavPath Aviation Ltd.
in Association with the Helicopter Association of Canada’s Convention

Course Manager: Bob Leroux

Pilot Examiner and former Transport Canada Inspector

NavPath Aviation in association with HAC is pleased to offer you the opportunity for professional
development of your instructional techniques and your competencies as an aviation
instructor, along with the opportunity to renew your flight instructor rating. This challenging and
stimulating course include presentations, videos, group exercises, workshops, open
discussions, role-playing, assignments, and quizzes. You will actively participate in the
professional development of your aeronautical knowledge, skills and attitudes during learner-
centred instruction. Upon completion of this innovative and engaging training course you will be
more competent, confident, effective and safer as a pilot and as an instructor.

The safety of flying in Canada depends upon the competence of the pilots and the system that
supports them. The competence of the pilots, in turn, depends upon the quality of the training
system that trains them; a system that is made up of flight schools, owners, managers, flight
instructors, chief flight instructors, ground instructors, simulator instructors and pilot examiners.
At the centre of the system is the student and it is you the instructor who guides the student
through the process of building and moulding their required knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Who should take this course?

Course participants will normally hold a valid flight instructor rating. Those who desire renewal
of their flight instructor rating must have a valid flight instructor rating on the first day of the
course. Please check Canadian Aviation Regulation section 421.66 to determine your personal
requirements for renewal.

Successful completion of the course requires your attendance at all of the scheduled training
sessions and your active participation in the learning activities. Upon successful completion of
this course you will be issued a Course Completion Certificate which may be used for renewal
of your flight instructor rating with Transport Canada for the full term as if you had taken a flight
test.

The course is also ideal for flight instructors who are planning to upgrade to a Class 2 or Class 1
flight instructor rating. We will help you prepare for the additional privileges, duties and
responsibilities of the higher class of flight instructor rating. Additionally, the course is also
suitable for those planning on obtaining an initial flight instructor rating and who meet the
prerequisites of Canadian Aviation Regulation section 421.77. Your attendance at this course
will benefit you as a pilot and will lay the foundation for your future career as an instructor. If you
have a valid commercial pilot licence attendance at this course will count as part of your
Transport Canada required ground school. Be sure to bring along your Pilot Training Record
and we will make the appropriate entries.

Other instructors seeking professional development may also attend the course, such as
instructors who do not require renewal of their flight instructor rating, simulator instructors,
aircraft type rating instructors, ground instructors. Others in aviation will find great value in
attending this course as well, such as company training pilots, approved check pilots and other
trainers/checkers in similar roles. This course is not just for licensed Flight Instructors.
