Ponds are small bodies of water in which the littoral zone is relatively large and limnetic and profoundal regions are small or absent. Natural ponds are also numerous in limnestone regions whan daprassians or “sin develop because of sulution of the underlying strata’. In order to arrive at a better under standing of the biological process within the freshwater ecosystem, a synchronous study ‘of pcalngical aspects is highly imperative Under these circumstances the present study has been undertaken. MATERIALS AND METHODS / Water samples ware collected trom the Singanallur pond for a period of 6 months (Getober, 1988 to March 1¥sy) at an Interval uf 15 days. Samples were collected trom the station at 12 noon and this was uniformly maintained throughout the study period. Samples wore collected in clean polythene containers. Collected samples were brovae 2 the laboratory and kept in the refrigerator for further analysis. ere ee Gs physico-chemical parameters*.
