TEACHING WRITING BY USING PROCESS GENRE APPROACH TO THE

The method used in conducting this study was an experimental design. In this research, the
writer applied one of quasi experimental research design, quasi experiment to provide control
of when and to whom the measurement is applied, but random assigment to experimental and
control treatments has not been applied.

4. Technique
The instrument used in collecting the data was written test. The test was administered twice,
as the pretest and posttest for both control and experimental group. In this study, the writer
concerned with construct validity and content validity, Reliability, Normality test, and
Homogeneity test

The design of this research is ex post facto research design by using comparative study.
3. Startegy
There is no such favorite class which consists of clever students only. So, the writer chose
sample through random sampling. It is believed that this method can fulfill the external
validity aspect and get normal distribution data.
4. Technique
The instruments of this research are motivation questionnaire to measure the students’
motivation in learning English and speaking test through prepared talk. The writer apply
Likert Scale for the questionnaire where each item has mainly four alternative answers that
is A, B, C, and D.

The method used in this research is classroom action research.

KWL (Know - Want to Know - Learned) Strategy
4. Technique
The research data were obtained by using several techniques including: test, observation,
interview, questionnaire, field notes and photographs. The quantitative data were analyzed by
using descriptive statistic. Meanwhile, qualitative data were analyzed by using 5 stages
suggested by Burns (1999: 157- 159) consisting of: assembling the data; coding the data;
comparing the data; building interpretation; and reporting the outcomes.

In this research, the writer used stages of jigsaw technique

The research data were obtained by using several techniques including: test, observation,
interview, questionnaire, field notes and photographs. The researcher used qualitative and
quantitative data. The quantitative data were obtained by calculating the mean score of tests
and the researcher got qualitative data from class observation, field notes, and interview. To
analyze the qualitative data, she used the steps of assembling the data, coding the data,
comparing the data, building interpretation, and reporting the outcomes (Burns, 1999:156-
160).

Based on the study that tries to describe the difficulties of teaching reading, the type of the
study can be classified into a descriptive study. Since the analysis employed in the study is
using qualitative analysis, the study is classified into a descriptive qualitative research.

There are some data collecting method used in a research, namely questionnaire, observation,
interview, and document etc. The data collecting method employed depends on the coverage
and goal of the research. According to Moleong (2003: 58) the basic method to collect data
in any qualitative research are observation and interview. Therefore, the writer employs
observation and interview method in the research.
