The main insulation of the bushing consists of an insulating body made of resin impregnated
paper with aluminium layers for capacitive grading.
For installation on the transformer a main flange is fixed oil-tight on the insulating body.
To protect the insulating body from environmental pollution, humidity or ultraviolet radiation,
it is covered with composite insulator.
In the head of the bushing a cable bolt is installed for the connection of the draw lead. A
tightening cover with O-rings is installed between the cable bolt and the central tube of the
bushing.
For the measurement of the capacitance and the dissipation factor of the bushing, a self
grounding test tap is installed in the main flange.

 %XVKLQJ6XSSO\&RQGLWLRQV
For protection against damages, the bushings are dispatched in wooden transport cases.
The stem conductor is assembled in the bushing. The lower bushing end is protected
against humidity by a plastic bag with a drying cartridge.

 7UDQVSRUW&DVH
Gross and net weight, as well as the dimensions are given in the dispatch notice.

Small types can be taken out by hand, larger types need rope and lifting gear.
%ULQJLQJWKHEXVKLQJLQWRYHUWLFDOSRVLWLRQ
The easiest way is by means of two lifting gears and two ropes. One end of the rope is slung
around sheds near the top, the other end is fixed with a hook in the lifting eye at the main
flange. The bushing is lifted first with both lifting gears and the flange end lowered down
afterwards.
$WWHQWLRQ The bushing mustQRW be put down with the lower end to the floor because the
shielding electrode might be damaged.
The bushing should QRW be turned into vertical position with only one rope. The
bushing can slip through and fall down.

 5HSDFNLQJIRU)XUWKHU7UDQVSRUW
It is necessary to ensure that the quality of packing, the protection against humidity and
damages, is as good as on delivery.

Concerning the storage of the bushing, the location (outdoors, rain protected or indoors) and
the duration of storage (short, medium or long term) must be taken into account. If
necessary a storage container can be ordered from Micafil AG.

&DXWLRQ Generally the moisture protection of the bushing must be mounted all
times.

If it is suspicious whether the storage conditions are conform to the table afore, it is possible
that humidity has entered into the insulation by a diffusion process. This must be confirmed
by capacitance and power factor measurement at about 10 kV. If the deviation of the power
factor is too big, please contact Micafil AG for further information about the drying procedure.

See drawing HLJ 579423.
The cable bolt (5) can be taken out of the central tube after removing the cover nut (2)
together with the tightening cap (4). For insertion of the cable bolt into the central tube from
the transformer side of the bushing, the fixation ring (3) and the tightening cover (4) must be
removed from the cable bolt.
In order to withstand the transient voltages between conductor cable and central tube, the
conductor cable should be covered with an insulation layer of about 1mm.
An appropriate hole for soldering in the cable conductor, should first be drilled into the cable
bolt (max. ∅ 35mm and max. hole depth 70mm). The connection can be done by soldering
or brazing. According to the recommendations of the manufacturer of the pressing tool,
crimping is also possible.
After connecting the draw lead, the deaeration screw (1) has to be exchanged with a ring
screw M12 (acc. DIN 444A or similar; max. ∅ 28mm) for pulling the cable bolt through the
bushing by a rope. The tightening cover (4), the fixation ring and the cover nut must be
placed on the rope before pulling the cable bolt through the central tube. Then the cable bolt
with the draw lead is to be inserted into the bushing. Afterwards, the tightening cover with
the O-rings is to be inserted between the cable bolt and the central tube, and the fixation ring
is to be put into one of the grooves of the cable bolt. Now the cable bolt can be fixed with the
cover nut (width between flats: 40 mm) with a torque of 50 Nm. After removing the ring
screw, the deareation screw (1) must be reinstalled.

The bushing must have environmental temperature before installation to avoid condensation
on the bushing surface.
The lower part of the bushing must be cleaned thoroughly with a clean, dry and non-fluffy
fabric before installation.
The transformer can be evacuated with mounted bushings. If the transformer is evacuated
while it is being filled, the central tube must not be deaerated.

Before putting the bushing into service, carry out a measurement of dissipation factor tan δ
and capacity C1 between high voltage lead and test tap at a voltage up to 10 kV in order to
have a reference for later checks.
The bushings do not need any maintenance.

RIP - Technology for SF6 / Oil - Bushings

In modern metal enclosed switchgear SF6 - gas is used

as an extinguishing and insulating medium, ensuring
highest security standard for operating staff and resi-
dents, especially in most confined and dense populated
areas.
As a result, today’s space saving design requires excel-
lent mechanical and electrical performance of all com-
ponents involved.
Micafil’s contribution to this world - wide development is
it’s new product range of GARIP bushings. These have
been designed for the direct single phase connection
between power transformers and gas insulated switch-
gear (GIS) for rated voltages of 72.5 kV up to 550 kV.

Since more than 40 years Micafil AG produces high vol-

tage bushings made with Vacuum Resin Impregnated
Paper Technology (RIP).
We are proud of our leading position in this field, making
available to our customers profound expertise in the
latest state of the art technology, which is based upon
more than 50000 RIP - bushings successful in operation.

The insulation body of the GARIP condenser bushing

series consists of a robust and solid core, made of
wound crepe paper and inserted aluminium foils for field
control, carefully vacuum dried and subsequently
impregnated with special epoxy resin.

The basic procedure for this new kind of manufacture

was originally developed by Micafil AG in Switzerland
already in 1958 and continuously improved in the course
of four decades.

Advanced standardisation, highly skilled craftsmanship

and computer - aided engineering guarantee today’s
most reliable and advanced insulation system for every
voltage level.

Main advantages of Micafil’s

RIP - technology
• Short delivery times
• Low dielectric losses (tan δ ~ 0.35 %)
• Partial discharge free up to double service voltage
• Fully dry, maintenance free
• Oil - free and environmental friendly
• Highest mechanical and thermal properties
• Robust design and vandalism resistant
• Option for any operating position
• Gas and oil tight
• Easy handling
