INTRODUCTION

This manual explains correct installation, operation, maintenance and inspection of the sys-
tem with cautionary remarks. Please read this manual carefully before installing the com-
ponents and starting operation to ensure correct usage of the system.
Keep this manual on board in a safe and dry place. If you transfer or resell the system, be
sure to hand this manual to the new owner.
The illustrations and/or contents of this manual may slightly differ from the actual product
due to changes in specification, etc.

FEATUARES OF THE SYSTEM

z Remote steering control is performed electrically by the Portable Controller PT-10C and
the Helm Controller DTX-10 (DTX-10D) which are connected to the Control Amplifier
CB-142.
z Total of three remote controllers can be used.

INSTRUCTION SYSBOLS

The symbols indicated below are used in this manual.

WARNING: Involves hazards or unsafe practices which could result in severe per-
sonal injury or death.

CAUTION: Involves hazards or unsafe practices which could result in minor injury
or product/property damage.

☞ NOTE : Information which is important for operation, maintenance or inspec-

tion of the system.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING

Thunder/Lightning
● When thunder/lightning occurs, do not touch metal parts or the power switch as there is a
danger of getting an electric shock by inductive lightning.

Operation
z Misoperation and/or malfunction of the system due to the damage to its components may
cause an accident. Severe damages to human life and the environment as well as dam-
ages to the vessel may result.
z Complete understanding of the characteristics of the system, of its capability and limitations
are required. Become familiarized with operations and pay utmost attention when using the
system.

Emergency Operation
z Familiarize yourself with the emergency operation and be able to perform it smoothly should
something happen.
z If malfunction of the system should occur, slow down the vessel and set the operation mode
to MANUAL to steer the vessel with the manual helm pump.

Remote Mode (Remote Control)

z Keep watching the heading when using the Portable Controller PT-10C and/or the Helm
Controllers DTX-10/DTX-10D.
z Before selecting REMOTE mode, make sure all the controllers connected to the system
(PT-10C, DTX-10 and DTX-10D) are set at neutral positions. If all the controllers are not set at
neutral positions, the vessel may make an unexpected turn when the mode is changed over
to REMOTE mode and this may cause an accident.
z If the abnormality affects the remote control of the vessel, change to MANUAL mode.

Maintenance Service
z In the course of maintenance, pay extra attention not to touch the moving steering gear
when getting in the steering gear room.
z Use proper fuses when replacing them. Use of improper fuses may cause damage to the
device and cause a fire.

Installation
● Use the correct DC voltage. Do not use alternate currents or non-specified DC power
sources. Using a wrong power source may cause fires, electric shocks and/or damage to
the system components.
● Do not strain or scratch the cables. Damaged cables may cause fires or electric shocks.
● Components such as, Control Amplifier and Solenoid Valve Unit, are not watertight. Do not
let the components get wet; fires or electric shocks may result. Should the component get
wet, turn off the power switch and inspect it promptly.

3
CAUTION

Operation
z Do not hit the Portable Controller against the wall or floor as it may break.
z Do not start the engine after switching on the DC power to the system. It may cause a mal-
function due to a sharp DC voltage drop.

Installation
● Do not install components at locations:
・ wet by rain or sea water splash
・ hard to service for inspection and maintenance
・ under direct sunlight and/or high heat
・ near severe vibration
● Install the Solenoid Valve Unit so that the solenoid valve is aligned to a horizontal plane.
● Turn off the power switch during wiring work.
● Confirm the terminal marks and mark tubes of cables when making connections.
● Fix the screws and connectors securely.
● Adjusting the volumes of the circuit board may be required while the DC power is on. Be
careful not to short circuit.
● To avoid radio interference, install the Control Amplifier apart from any radio communication
device.

Inspection before Sailing

z Confirm the system functions before each sailing.

(For Hydraulic Steering System)

Hydraulic oil
● Check oil level of the power unit and fill oil as necessary. Use specified hydraulic oil (ISO
VG22). NEVER USE BRAKE OIL!!

High temperature
● Power Unit, piping and Helm Pump become hot during operation. Do not touch them care-
lessly.

Installation of Cylinder and Feedback Unit

z Periodical inspection for the installation of cylinder and the Feedback Unit FT-10-2 is required.
Loose installation may cause chattering of the rudder movement.

CAUTION: Control Method

Three controllers can be connected to the Control Amplifier CB-142.
The electric control method is called “Addition Type” and the movement of three
controllers is integrated.
For example,
1) One controller is turned to port 30 ゚, the rudder moves to port 30 ゚.
2) Then another controller is turned to starboard 10 ゚, the rudder moves to port 20 ゚.
3) Then the third controller is turned to starboard another 10 ゚, the rudder moves to
port 10 ゚.
4) If the third controller is turned to starboard 30 ゚ from the condition 2) above, the
rudder moves to starboard 10 ゚.

CAUTION
When finishing the operation, set all the controllers at their neutral positions.

18
