Learning Plan in Science (Kinder Junior)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to:
Knowledge: identify the foods that make our body strong and healthy and what
time of the day they are good to be eaten.
Skills: make a food pyramid by posting the pictures of foods on the chart.
Attitude: cooperate in group activities involving healthy foods.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Content: Foods That Our Body Needs
Reference: Kinder Junior Science Textbook
Materials: pictures, TV, charts, stars
Core Values: cooperation, appreciation
Bible Text: Proverbs 15:17 “A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than
steak with someone you hate.”

III. PROCEDURE
A. Explore
 Preparation: (Classroom Management)
 Motivation: (Energizer)
- Play the video and sing and dance with the pupils.
 Questions:
1. Did you enjoy singing and dancing?
2. What was the song all about?
3. What does our body need in order to be strong and healthy?
4. What do you think our lesson for today is?

B. Firm-up: (Game – “If You Love to Eat This, Do This!”)


 Questions:
- Do you love to eat foods?
- What foods do you like?
- Would you like to play a game?
 Explain how to play a game:
1. I will mention a name of a food and if you love to eat that food, you
must do the task I will give to you.
2. For example, if I say, “If you love to eat apples, clap your hands!” you
must then clap your hands to show that you really love to eat apples.
3. If you participate well in our game, you will be rewarded for being very
good.
 Start the game:
1. If you love to eat fries, raise your hands!
2. If you love to eat hamburger, stomp your feet!
3. If you love to eat candies, wave your hands!
4. If you love to eat vegetables, shake your hands!
5. If you love to eat fruits, shake your body!
6. If you love to eat chicken, hug your seatmate!
7. If you love to eat fish, jog in place!
8. If you love to eat cheese, jump 3 times!
9. If you love drink milk, sit!
10. If you love to eat bread, do the peace sign!
11. If you love to eat cereals, clap your hands!
12. If you love to eat rice, sit properly!
 Congratulate the pupils and give stars to all of them.

C. Deepen
 Questions:
1. Who among you here wants to have a lot of energy to play?
2. Who among you here wants to grow big and tall?
3. Who among you here wants to be away from sickness and become
handsome or beautiful?
4. Do you know what kinds of foods give you a lot of energy to play, make
you grow big and tall, and keep you away from sickness and also make
you handsome and beautiful?
- They are the GO, GROW, and GLOW foods.
- We will discuss later what they are.
 Discussion:
1. Introduction:
Our body needs the right kind of food to make us healthy. Fruits and
vegetables are good for our body. We must eat many different kinds of
nutritious food to grow. Our body also needs plenty of water.
2. Describe and give examples of foods that are good for our body.
3. Discuss the foods that are good to eat at a given time.
4. Discuss the food pyramid using the instructional materials.

5. Discuss the GO, GROW, and GLOW foods.


6. State that the foods outside the food pyramid are not healthy foods
that’s why we should eat less of them.
7. Give examples of foods that are outside the food pyramid.
8. Play the video: Healthy Foods vs. Junk Foods.
9. Read and explain Proverbs 15:17.
D. Transfer of Learning: (Group Activity)
 Divide pupils into 3 groups.
 Give each group a set of pictures of different foods and a blank food
pyramid chart.
 Give the instructions:
- Work with your group mates on making a food pyramid by pasting
the pictures on the chart.
- Your food pyramid should be arranged the same way as the food
pyramid I present to you.
- In 15 minutes, I am going to collect your work.
 Present the rubrics for the group activity and explain:

 Let the pupils start their work.


 Roam around and assist the pupils.
 After the pupils have finished making their food pyramid, collect their works
and paste it on the board.
 Put a big star on the work of each group.
 Ask questions that will lead to answering the core values.
