Case Analysis
1. Problem:
Aruni and Shivani are two of the employees working at Adarsh City bank. Although both of them
have equivalent amount of experience, Aruni was chosen over Shivani for a promotion. Aruni well
aware of Shivani's blunt personality, chose another team member as her assistant instead of Shivani
inspite of her being the senior most member of the team. This offended her and ever since then
Shivani has questioned and retaliated to every decision that Aruni took. This created a strain in
their working relationship which was close before. Some of the opinions expressed by Shivani did
hold ground but the way Shivani expressed them bothered her and she wishes to improve this
dynamic.

2. Protagonist: Aruni

3. Parameters:
a. Aruni was really passionate about her work and wishes to do it with good team
spirit.
b. Aruni and Shivani had a very close working dynamic before Aruni's promotion
and it changed after it.
c. Shivani's popular opinion is that she is rude, belligerent and always jumping to
conclusions.
d. For the same reason Aruni picks other teammate over Shivani as her assistant
which made Shivani to react badly.
e. Shivani would disrespect and question every decision Aruni made

4. Assumptions:
The case here spins around the changing relationship between Aruni and Shivani. Post her
choice, Aruni felt as on the off chance that Shivani was challenging her each choice. Ready
to expect that the way Shivani presents her contentions with realities within the assembly
may be off-base but the points she made with respect to changes that are required within
the system’s method and the changes framework are somewhat right. This might affect
Aruni’s certainty as a boss and her capacity to demonstrate herself. This might make her
hesitant to a few of the points made by Shivani within the up and coming gatherings indeed
in the event that those are substantial. Generally, it may influence the efficiency and
analysis of Aruni and the office as a whole.

5. Solutions:
a. One of the arrangements can be opening the channels of communication between
Shivani and Aruni. A one-to-one discourse can offer assistance and highlight the
progressing issues.
b. Before taking any decision, Aruni ought to have a discusion and only after learning
the advantages and disadvantages, should she take the final decision.
c. She should clear the air over the matter of why she chose the other team member
over her as the assistant manager.
d. She can assign Shivani a project where she gets to lead and consequently, exhibit
her abilities.
e. She can warn Shivani about how her erroneous remarks reflect upon her.
f. Aruni should think about the ideas put forward by Shivani and work on that
without considering around the continuous issues between her and Shivani.

6. Evaluation of Solutions
Weighing the advantages and disadvantages of different arrangements specified, in the
event that Aruni highlights to Shivani about her behavioral issues at that point it can lead
to more issues and diminish the work efficiency of Shivani and the group. Shivani has three
years of experience and in spite of her jumping to conclusions, the office has no issues with
regard to her work. Hence, this can be not a true blue arrangement. On the other hand, in
the event that Aruni does not react and fair gives a thought to some good points put forward
by Shivani, at that point it'll reduce her certainty as a Boss and a manager, as she will keep
going with the questioning. Hence not a good arrangement. Then in the event that Aruni
allocates Shivani a extend to lead, it may appease her for a shorter length but the issue with
her behavior and the way she stands up to Aruni and other workers in each meeting might
not alter within the longer timeline. This will be one of the arrangements but not the best
one. In case Aruni straightforwardly discusses why she chose a fellow with lesser
experience over her without knowing the genuine reason, it might neglect few other issues
that might be responsible. So, this as well isn't a good solution. And reaching to the meeting
fully prepared can help Aruni stand up to Shivani but in the long run, it'll not resolve any
issues between them.

7. Best Possible Solution

One-to-one dialog can be one of the best ways to resolve the pertaining issue. It can offer
resolution to both Aruni and Shivani work on their contrasting ideology. If Shivani is
disturbed about her not being chosen as the assistant, then Aruni can tell that her choice
was a result of what is in the best interest of the team and the company. At the same time,
Aruni should come to terms with all the possible responses to her decision.l and take them
positively. If she is convinced with her decision, she should go forward with it sometimes
and when not she should take the team's feedback. Shivani to work on her factious
approach. So, good conversations to clear the air would be the best solution.

8. Alternate Solutions
a. In the discussion, in case Shivani says that her behavior is nowhere related to her
reactions and because of genuine problems with the decisions, Aruni should
consider it and hence, allot a few projects to her where she can lead and grandstand
her capacity. She can observe her behaviour hence forth and take actions
accordingly if it happens again.
b. Prohibit gossip and try to discourage a negative attitude in the office in case
discussions cross an ethical point.

9. Contingency Plan
If the discussion still does not help, she should raise the problem to the HR and
seek advice.

Case Questions

1. Does Aruni have a supervisory problem with Shivani? If she does, what is it?
In the cases mentioned in the study, Shivani reacted to the choices taken by Aruni with negative
attitude. Her points are good but her approach is incorrect. Before they had a close working
relationship and would share everything with each other in a good intent and respect towards each
other. Only after Aruni got promoted and chose other team member as the assistant did she start
reacting negatively towards Aruni. It clearly pinched her and hence disregarding the good
relationship that they shared previously she chooses to outlay her problems in front of the entire
team rudely instead of privately. This shows that Aruni is frustrated and surprised with Shivani's
direct rude approach which is expressed in the statement, "Or so she thought".
What steps could Aruni have taken in order to reduce or avoid the problem after she was
promoted to the Supervisor’s job??
After being promoted she could clearly have said that whatever decisions that they would take
would be an outcome of the entire teams opinions rather than her own. There would be discussions
to get the best possible solution ahead and everyone would get an equal say in it. The team would
then vote to select the best alternative and finalise it. This would reduce the possibility of the team
and Aruni to get surprised by each other's opinions and reactions and create a more collaborative
and supportive team.
