Don't get me wrong without new patients a practice is a goner. The fact is if the sole focus is only on
new patients, than old patients will be neglected. Thus the practice will miss out on a lot of revenue and
eventually close down.

This is the main difference between successful practices and struggling ones. No matter how many new
patients are brought in, they still remain in the red because the real money is made in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th
even the 5th year. The longer a practice keeps a patient, the more money is made.

For example, a patient who has been with a practice for over 5 years pays the doctor around $1,900+
yearly.

Did you know that according to the U.S. News and World report study, 82% of people who leave a
practice are doing it because either they were poorly treated or indifferent? The remaining 28% can't be
helped because that's out of reach.

But this 82% is essential. 14% leave the practice that has mistreated them. I assume it's not the case
here.

The other 68% leaves because of indifference. By not being top of mind they will leave to greener
pastures. As the saying goes: out of sight, out of mind.

The average attrition rate is around 15% this comes costly to any practice because every lost patient has
to be replaced. There's the initial cost of getting a patient plus the replacement cost. This is fairly basic
math because I haven't included the lost revenue from the years to come plus the referral potential.

This is why you can't afford to lose a patients prematurely. As Joe Girard (the #1 car salesman in the
world) had this principle: everybody knows around 250 people. This is why he didn't allow anybody to
have a bad experience at the dealership. He knew that one unhappy person could cost him 250 potential
sales, again we're using simple math not counting future purchases and referral potential. Sticking to his
principle, he became the #1 car salesman in the world.

Let's talk about what struggling practices are missing while flourishing ones have implemented.

The first thing every practice needs is a patient retention program. If you do the math retention is much
cheaper than acquiring new patients.

Struggling practices either have bad retention or no retention in place. The problem with this bad habit
is that it's not evident. It takes many years to be felt. But when it hits, then it hits like a hurricane.

You probably see the importance of having a patient retention program by now. So how to do it?

The best way to keep a patient is by building up a good relationship with them. By forging a strong bond
with them, you can protect them from competitors and predators.

You are probably wondering what kind of predators I'm talking about? There are two types of predators
out there: foreign ones and domestic.

The foreign one you have probably guessed is Medical Tourism, and you are right; they are stealing
patients at an alarming rate. Across the border, there are state of the art clinics who are charging a
fraction of the cost.

People are packing up getting their teeth done and see some sights along the way. This means the
money is steadily flowing in the pockets of foreigners. Medical tourism is 179.6 Billion dollars year
industry, and it's poised to grow by 21% annually. (grandviewresearch.com)

That's a lot of money going in somebody else.

But we don't have to go across the border to find predators. There are already companies setting up
cheap dental practices, and it will be only a matter of time until the giant Amazon will get into the game
as well.

As I mentioned earlier, Walgreens and CVS have already set up dental practices, and they are slowly
siphoning away patients from established practices.

Why would Amazon be interested in dental jobs? Because there's a lot of money to be made and they
want a piece of the pie.

Are you skeptical? I was as well until I've checked the history. Not long ago, Amazon has launched its
professional services branch. They have already started squeezing out plumbers and electricians by
charging rock bottom prices. Will dental practices be next?

Something similar happened with lawyers. Have you heard about legalzoom.com? This website did a
number on many lawyers.

Legalzoom.com provides the cheapest possible advice. So how can a lawyer compete when he's used to
charging hundreds of dollars an hour? A number of lawyers have folded and closed down shop. A
handful of them not just survived, but thrived. Why?

The answer is simple because they had a strong relationship with their clients.

Here's another example:

Have you heard of 1-800 flowers? This business has also squeezed a lot of flower shops out of the
market.

Hopefully, by now you understand that the question is not if but when will somebody muscle into
dentistry. There's a lot of money to be made.

The only way to protect your practice and keep your patients is by creating a rock-solid relationship with
them.

Joe Girard set the record in car sales in 1973 when he sold 1,425 cars in a year single-handedly. His
secret of success was to become a celebrity. Besides following his principle of not letting anybody leave
disappointed, he has kept showing up every month. And not how you would think. By using a simple,
low-tech approach, he stayed top of mind. In a minute, I will give you more details about this low-tech
technique.

As I mentioned before the strength of the relationship with your patients is the only thing that cannot
be copied, stolen, or taken away.

As Andrew Carnegie said it best: "Take away my buildings, my capital, my products, my staff, but leave
me my customers and I'll have everything else back in short order."

This is how powerful strong relationships are.

Literally, on the power of your relationship, you can rebuild a business or a practice. Now let's talk about
the third important component

This is the power of owning your media. There are only a handful of people who do it. For the rest, the
only option is to rent. And by renting, they are left at the land lord's mercy.

Are you using Facebook as your media of choice? It means you're renting. Facebook has been known to
change the rules and screw people over. Just take a look at Mark Cuban owner of the Dallas Mavericks.
Yes that Mark Cuban who's a billionaire and on the hit TV Show called Shark Tank. He has been
mercilessly screwed over by Facebook.

His team has built up a massive following for his Dallas Mavericks, and without notice, Facebook
changed the rules. According to the new regulations, you have to pay to play if you want to reach your
existing fans.

He has invested a lot of money and energy to build up the fan page, and now he has to pay to reach
them continuously.

So if this can happen with the big guys? What chances the little guy have?

Some people swear by Google. Well, it's not a safe haven either. They ban Adwords accounts left and
right. And SEO is not free anymore; you have to pay to play. I know this because a few years back I was
doing SEO and it was ok until Google messed the game up. Now it's harder slower, and you have to pay
a lot to get some “free” traffic, and there are no guarantees.

But there is hope. For example, you probably heard of Lady Gaga. She has her own media channel. Yes,
of course, she has her usual social accounts and has over 50 million fans. But she has her media as well
it's called LittleMonsters.com. Only the most devoted fans are on her platform, and she managed to
amass 500,000. These people are her true fans, who are her evangelists.

Just imagine if Lady Gaga would ask only 1$ a month from every true fan. She would be making
$6,000,000 a year without any hard work.

Another person I've kept mentioning is Joe Gerard. He has developed his own media channel. Every
month he sent out a postcard to his customers with the following message: "I love you." Guess what;
there was no sales pitch, no sales letter no nothing. He has shown up month after month and was top of
mind. The only addition to his message was his name and the dealership where he worked. This was the
low-tech strategy that made him the #1 car salesman in the world.

Before we get down to the system that will make you a celebrity and build a relationship with your
clients, let's recap what we have learned so far.

By now, you understand that you need to retain your clients as long as possible. Without them, you miss
out on revenue and free patients through referrals. The best way to do this is by becoming a celebrity.

Also, you know how important it is to have a strong relationship with your patients. Last but not least,
you learned the importance of owning your own media channel.

This is the last piece of the puzzle. The system that I call 3DPS. It's a specialized newsletter which helps
you to become a celebrity. Plus it helps you grow your personal brand. And it's an excellent tool for
referrals.

snoop around for an offline newsletter?

Why offline? Because it works. According to the Target Marketing 8/14 study, which clearly shows the
difference in brain function when they compared a digital paper with a physical one. The brain comes
alive when you handle something tangible compared to looking at a screen.

I've probably mentioned this, that you don't have to write a single word. All it takes is a 20-minute
