Will and Skill

Work. What is it?  It is a typical human practice since the beginning of civilizations. It is the mystery
behind social advancement and the defining characteristic of man. Work from my perspective, is a virtue
and a necessity. In the midst of uncertainty, interdependence and market economy, the individual needs to
rely on his work to support his own well-being. Work gives the individual the capacity to be independent,
to flourish, to develop, and most importantly, to find a significant meaning to life, to find the ultimate
purpose of seeking a better life. It is widely believed that people work simply for money. However, it is
only one of the significant purposes of working, and oftentimes there are a lot of benefits and advantages
that a man acquires from working without even consciously realizing them. Nowadays, aside from money,
people still work for many reasons, including understanding and fulfilling their responsibilities in society, to
avoid wastefulness, and to keep their minds active.

For many people, the biggest benefit of working lies in a priceless lesson of responsibility. Through
working, people learn how to be responsible, first to themselves, then to their families and society. If
working is all about money, why even kids from well-off families are guaranteed a wealthy future life
whatsoever? It is because they want to be responsible for their own lives and to live on their labor. Next,
working gives them a strong sense of responsibility for their family and society. Family life is happiest
when all members share family work and together contribute to make it a more comfortable and
harmonious life. Likewise, a country is most prosperous when every citizen contributes their part to make
it thrive. Another important reason that makes people look for a work is to understand the importance of
producing property and avoid wastefulness. In short, working, or living on what a man created teaches
them not only the value of labor and property, but also the importance of economy. Lastly, to work is to
keep us active and in good shape. Working is about constantly learning and understanding things around
us. 

To sum up, working to most people is, although difficult, but still rewarding because of the great
benefits it brings about especially the success that a person would achieve. It is not just basically about
earning and laying down into money, people also work for many important purposes, including being
aware of their duties, to make themselves be responsible enough, to steer clear from wastefulness, to stay
lively and active, and most importantly to find one’s purpose in this vast world we are all living in. Simply,
it is living into a bigger picture that makes us see the true meaning and reality of life. Therefore, working is
the best way through which a man can enjoy it. It is working while doing what you love. In conclusion, I
believe that working is a tool by which we can make a key to the gate of knowledge, it is a road that leads
to tomorrow, and it is a direction that keeps us fit.
