A. INTRODUCTION
1. Welcome
Welcome to the School of Electrical Engineering (SEE)! We are one of the distinguished
members of International University – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh city (IU –
VNU HCMC). SEE was formed in 2004 and was among the earliest established schools in IU.
For over a decade and a half of growing, the school has earned a good reputation in the discipline
of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and as one of the schools who have strong
industrial links.
In 2013, our program has proud to receive the assessment and accreditation of quality by AUN-
DAAD and recently by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, United
States) as a result of the evaluation visit in December 2018. This success has firmed up our
motivation and encourages us to pursue a higher level in research and teaching activities.
b. Missions
Offering a high-quality graduate and undergraduate multi-disciplinary education, striving
for all educational programs to be internationally recognized and accredited.
Offering excellent research including basic and applied research to meet the needs of
industry, local provinces, and society.
Taking the pioneering role in Vietnam by practicing management excellence, inspiring
and assisting other VNU members in the advancement toward the development of
Vietnam National University – HCMC as a whole.
The above statement is disseminated on http://www.hcmiu.edu.vn/language/en-US/Gioi-
thieu-About-IU/Tam-nhin-va-su-mang-Mission-and-Vision.

them with the necessary knowledge to be able to adapt to the rapid change in technology
Conduct high-quality research that benefits students, scholar and communities
Transfer technology to solve community problems and create strong collaboration with Industry.
4. Career Opportunities
Students who graduate from the School of Electrical Engineering have a great chance to
- Work in domestic or foreign companies related to IC design, consumer electronics,
information technology, and automation
- Work in domestic or foreign communication/network corporations, mobile network,
airlines & transportations companies
- Develop their professional career in the entertainment and advertising industries
- Develop start-up companies and introduce new electrical and communication products to
the market
5. Academic Program
School of Electrical Engineering offers two types of Undergraduate programs:
The Electrical Engineering program at International University (4 years)
1. Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering
2. Automation and Control Engineering
You will have to conduct a study of 4 years fully at the International University. On completion
of this program, you will be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering Degree (B.Eng) by
International University - Vietnam National University, HCMC.

C. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM-AUTOMATION AND
CONTROL ENGINEERING (B.Eng)
The Automation and Control Engineering undergraduate curriculum consists of four main
blocks:
- General knowledge offers students a concrete background in English, Mathematics,
Physics and Political and Social Science.
- Core major requirement introduces students to Automation and Control Engineering
fundamentals. The courses apply the foundation principles in mathematics and physics to
the state-of-the-art of Automation and Control Engineering.
- Specialization requirement provides students with an in-depth understanding of current
technology in Automation and Control Engineering domain. The four elective courses are
offered to provide students with a deeper and more detailed understanding in the fields of
Control Applications and Optimization, Industrial Systems and Control, Robotic & AI.
- Professional practice and research help students to be familiar with Engineering
Design Procedure, Engineering Standards and Realistic Constraints. After having
successfully completed 107 credits, student can freely take an internship or senior project.
In the case of choosing internship, the students can either work at their chosen company
with an industrial advisor or do research at EE school with an academic advisor. Duration
of the internship is at least 8 weeks and up to 6-months (with industrial advisor only)
depending on the agreement between students and the host company. The senior project
is mandatory to the final thesis. Students are advised to take the final thesis right after
they passed their senior project.

D. ACADEMIC MATTERS
1. Specialization Selection
After completing the first two years of the program, you are allowed to choose the specialization.
Specialization is the research area which you want to continue in the thesis.
a) Specialization for Electrical Engineering program:
RF Design
Internet of Things, Electronics & Embedded Systems
Wireless Communications
Signal Processing
b) Specialization for Automation and Control program:
Control Applications and Optimization
Industrial system and control
Robotics & AI
The priority for specialization selection is based on student’s GPA and the quota for each. Once
the specialization is chosen, you have to take the required courses for each specialization, its
relevant elective courses, and the final thesis.
3. Thesis Registration
You have to register for the senior project before the thesis. In order to take the senior project,
you must have successfully completed 107 credits.
Any student who wants to register for the thesis must meet the following conditions:
Accumulate successfully at least 90% of total credits in the curriculum
Finish the senior project
Not under any academic admonishment
After the successful registration, you have 12 weeks (in minimum) to finish and submit your
thesis.
4. Graduation Criteria
Students have to meet all of the following requirements for graduation:
Fully complete the curriculum (144 credits) with GPA ≥ 50
______________________
The program has been successfully accredited ABET since 2018 26
Obtain the minimum English proficiency with TOEFL iBT score of 61 or equivalent
IELTS score of 6.0 overall
Obtain Military Education Certification
Meet other requirements in accordance with the regulations for graduation set by the IU
5. Course Registration
In every semester, you have to do the course registration in which you select the subjects from
the curriculum that are suitable for you. Be careful with your selection because it may affect your
Personal Development plan as well as the final achievement of your degree.
______________________
The program has been successfully accredited ABET since 2018 27
