EARTH’S BURNING LUNGS

Amazon’s Rainforest Fire

Amazon Rainforest, covering much of northwestern Brazil and extending into

Colombia, Peru and other South American countries, is the world’s largest tropical
rainforest and famed for its biodiversity. It has thousands of rivers including the
Amazon river. It is also the inhabitant of million Indians divided into about 400 tribes
wherein Yanomani is the largest.

Amazon Rainforest is the home of wild animals, undiscovered plants and trees and
people with rich culture that do not have any contact with the outside world. It also
provides 20% oxygen for the Earth. As its existence is relevant to the whole world, it
should be preserved and enriched. Yet, numerous conflagration were recorded
which estimates around 80, 000 this year. These incidents are either caused by
climate change or activity of the people-- minor fires for farming or ranching.

On 20th of August, 2019, a major and destructive fire was reported in the Amazon
which spread easily because of the wind and trees. This incident threatened
numerous species of animals and the indigenous tribes living in the forest. It caused
massive damage to the untouched treasure of the Earth. Right now, the Amazon
forest has been deforested by 15 percent or more from its primeval state. As the
news about the conflagration spread all throughout the world, the public expresses
sympathy and even sent help to put out the fire. Several politicians and celebrities
gave million aid package to extinguish the fires that devastated the forest but, Jair
Bolsonaro, Brazil’s current President rejected it due to issues with French leader
Emmanuel Macron.

The Amazon Rainforest Fire awakened our minds and hearts to the changing state of
our home-- Earth. The massive destruction caught the attention of everyone as it
may lead us to grave danger. This prompted several nature activists and
organizations to strictly implement the conservation of natural resources and punish
those who continue to do illegal acts to the environment. It also evokes the jeopardy
of deforestation which are commonly done for farming, urbanization and agricultural
expansion. This practice should be avoided if possible for it can be a cause of climate
change such as global warming, etc. These effects speed up the destruction of the
planet and bring the humanity into peril. Everyone should help hand in hand in
preserving the nature for it is more important than money and power.
Care to grow. Care to exist. Care to live.
