CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY

A. Background
At this time the ship design process has followed the development of computer
technology. Designing ships are no longer made with manual techniques or
manufacture by drawing on the ship but now using computer software softwares
has advantages in many ways such as 3D visualization, providing the speed and
ease in calculation and design work, accuracy in the portrayal, calculation report
generation fast drawings and diagrams, Advances in computer technology have
also been touched marine structure design process. Conventional drawing
techniques to draw in 2D or have a lot of abandoned and switching to 3D
modeling. Modeling in 3D provides advantages such as providing visualization
significantly to the construction design of the building structure.
In the field of shipping, of course, will not escape from engineering design and
construction of the ship. The production process is not the same ship with the
production of the means of transport in general. To produce a ship begins with a
reservation by the owner. Furthermore, from the requirements listed, do planning
processes ranging from calculation to shipbuilding by lines plan and general
arrangement has been obtained from the results of previous calculations. It can be
seen that for designing a boat, to a process of continuous mutually from one stage
to another until the boat was feasible to produce.
In designing and designing the ship there are several methods that can be used,
one of which is with the help of a computer (Computer Aided Design). Computer
Aided Design is a computer program to draw a product or part of a product.
Products that want to be described can be represented by lines and symbols that
have certain meanings.CAD can be a two-dimensional images and three-
dimensional images.
Examples of special software 3D design in the field of shipping as modeller
maxsurf answer the needs of ship modeling in 3D.

CHAPTER II
BASIC THEORY

A. The introduction of software maxsurf

Maxsurf.Pro is a program used by the Marine Engineer for modeling (Lines
Plan). Lines manufacture of this Plan is the key to the success of design planning prior
to the model to analyze the hydrodynamics (maxsurf Resistance), power structures
and further detailing (maxsurf Structure). Often the modeling and analysis are always
changing because of mismatches between design and analysis, so that the design
process can be described as a spiral design that enhance each other. In other words
maxsurf is computer software for creating / designing / drawing an object or part of
these objects in the 3-dimensional shape, which is more specifically lead to the design
of the ship. In the software could also be to calculate the ship resistance and resilience
Bentley maxsurf is a computer program developed by FormSys (formating Design
System), under the auspices of Bentley Systems since 2011, which is the development
of several computer programs that SACS, maxsurf and Moses. Maxsurf is an
application program specialist in the field of marine architecture and shipbuilding,
offshore engineering and structural engineering. The program can visualize and
optimize the design of the ship with a full arrangement that has been integrated.
offshore engineering and structural engineering. The program can visualize and

Maxsurf consists of several sub-program applications, namely:
1. maxsurf Modeler
2. maxsurf Motion
3. maxsurf Resistance
4. maxsurf Stability
5. maxsurf Structure
6. maxsurf fittings
7. maxsurf Link
8. maxsurf Vpp

STEP DESIGN (Maxsurf Modeler)

In this stage of the process with the help of software design maxsurf can be in many
ways one of which is by using a ready-made linesplan then converted into 3D form on
software maxsurf . There are several steps in making a linesplan into 3D form which
is as follows:

1. The first was set up linesplan

8
2. From linesplan was changed to an image that will be imported into the modeler
maxsurf

3. Set the unit / unit

To set UNIT DATA-UNIT can click here I am using units of meters and weighed
using a ton

9
4. Import images on maxsurf modeller
The first step in doing in this case is click the appropriate FILE-IMPORT enter 3
looks at maksurf Front (Body Plan), side (Sheer Plan) and looked over (Half
breadth plan).

10
5. Specify "image set zero point" on the third view image
a. First come up with a body plan, click DISPLAY-IMAGE BACKGROUND SET
POINT ZERO and then click on the intersection of the center line and base line.

b. Both appear sheer plan

Click-BACKGROUND- DISPLAY SET POINT ZERO IMAGE then click on

the intersection of the base line and station 0

11
c. Second Half appear breadth plan

Click-backgrond DISPLAY SET POINT ZERO IMAGE then click at the

intersection of 0 and a center line station

6. Determining the "set reference point" on the third eye to create the appropriate
image size of the original ship.
 The first to appear Body plan. Then click DISPLAY - BACKGROUND - SET
IMAGE REFERENCE POINT and then click on the intersection of the top
water line to the center line and then input the appropriate distance to the
water line of 7.9 m deck and in the locker vertical derection then ok.

 Both appear Sheer plan

12
click DISPLAY - BACKGROUND - SET IMAGE REFERENCE POINT and then
click on the intersection of the next station with a base line, then input the appropriate
distance station, here I am using a 23 station with an overall length of 44 m and
remains in tranverse directionnya then ok.

 Third Half appear breadth plan

Click DISPLAY - BACKGROUND - SET IMAGE REFERENCE POINT and then

click on the intersection of the station at the front with the center line distance is
equal to the sheer plane is 44 m and directionnya lengthwise so tranverse.

7. Set the design grid by providing lines per section, Buttocks, and Waterline
a) First adjust the amount of sections / station

13
Click ADD and input the appropriate number of stations here I use the 23
station and then ok, then plih SPACE to adjust the distance per station, SPACE
STATION replaced from last in the step of charged according to the distance
station, here I use a distance of 2 m to distance per station ,

b) The second set Buttocks

Click Buttocks PLANE - ADD and fill in the appropriate number of plane
battocks I use 6 battocks plane then ok.Then click SPACE - IN STEPS OF
replaced with distance per Buttocks I use a 1m per Buttocks.

c) The third set WATER LINES

14
Click WATER LINES -ADD Then fill in the number of water lines, I use a
water line 9 then ok. then click SPACE - IN STEPS OF replaced with
distance per water line I use space 1 m per weter lines.

8. Adding high DWL

To set loaded by clicking DATA - FRAME OF REFERENCE ago for my DWL
content according to the requirements of 2.85 m high, and then click the baseline
and his midships in the locker AFT.PERP then ok

9. Making the ship surfaces

15
To make surfaces click Surfaces - ADD SURFACE - Buttocks PLANE, and then
come up with a side view and set the width and height of the surface according to
the example image, how to change it at Surfaces - SIZE surfaces after appropriate
traffic measures come up front, open per control points according to the image
midship we want, and then come up with a side view to add control points per
station and set the appropriate control point lines already existing plane.

16
10. The addition of control points on each section

17
11. Opening the sealed surface by dragging control points on the "body plan"
sideways

18
12. Cover the front surface, by blocking the control points at the front and then offset
the control point setting rated 0

13. Linesplan surface formed in accordance with the looks on

19
14. Vessel body formed by shifting the control point on the corresponding side view
linesplan

15. Vessel body formed by shifting the control point on the facade in accordance
linesplan

20
16. See the 3D results after shifted control point

17. If there are less delicate areas on the body of the ship could be crushed by
changing the "Long Stiffenes and Trans Stiffenes", from the outset 2 was changed
to three or more with max 10

21
18. Make a boat by adding surface transome "Section plane"

19. Shifts surface "Section Plane" section to 0 or AP and provide size on the surface

22
20. Enable "trim visible" to the surface to be made trim deck

21. Click on the body surface ship then right-click and select Start trim
