Topic / Lesson Name: Computer Networking: Create cross-over cable wire

A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of the underlying concepts and principles
in configuring computer systems and networks.
B. Performance The learner independently demonstrates skills in configuring computer systems
Standards and networks as prescribed by TESDA Training Regulations.
C. Learning At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Competencies  Recognize the importance and functions of cross over cable.

b. Review
Let us first recall our previous lesson, last meeting we’ve discussed
 networking devices, media and connectors
 different classification of networking devices, media and connectors
 Does anyone of you can common network cables?
 Can you differentiate cross over cable to straight through cable?
c. Motivation
 Will show a video on the fabrication of cross over cable.
Presenting the lesson/  Before we proceed into our activity;
motivation  What are the tools and materials needed in creating networking
cable?

Activity Application

Learners will read the procedure in creating cross over cable.
Direction: Students will create straight through cable using 5e or Cat5e- standard
wire for cabling coding arrangement, by following the steps in creating Cross
over cable.
(provided with the necessary tools and materials. Students will perform actual
procedure in creating Cross over cable.)
1. Strip off suitable length of the cable sheath.
2. Sort wires by insulation colors.
3. Align the colored wires according to the specific order.
4. Trim all the wires to the same length.
5. Insert the wires into RJ45 plug.
6. Maintain wire order, left to right, with RJ45 tab facing downward.
7. Crimp the RJ45 plug with the crimping tool.
8. Verify the order of the wires is correct making good contact with the
metal contacts in the RJ45 plug.
9. Repeat all the steps in creating the other end of the cable.
Generalization

A cross-over cable, can be used to connect two network devices directly, without
the need for a router in the middle. It simply reverses some of the pins so that
the output on one computer is being sent to the input of another. Bear in mind
that safety precautions must always be applied and observed during the
Analysis
fabrication of the said cables. Also, materials and tools to be used must always be
complete and functional to save time, money and effort.

Always take into considerations that before using the cable in connecting actual
devices. It is suggested that you must use a LAN tester first to check the
functionality of the cable.
The learners will demonstrate actual performance in creating cross over cable
Application
wire.
Students performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics.
(the teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring
rubrics.)
CRITERIA PERCENTAGE RATING
Safety procedures 15%
Evaluation Adherence to the procedures 30%
Workmanship 15%
Quality of product 40%
TOTAL: 100%

Learners who did not completed the activity may continue it tomorrow. Review
Agreement
the color-coding arrangement of cross over cable wire.
