Traditional Design
● Calm, orderly and predictable
● Furniture and design might feel outdated
● All of the furnitures and objects are consistent
● Nothing wild about a traditional design
● Color in a traditional room varys, it could be very dark,
or very light, it has a mid-range of tones
● Has a lot of wood in it, most furniture and flooring have
wood in it
● Crown molding
This is a great example of a living room
that is a traditional design because of all
the wood in the room. The floors are
dark wood and there is even wood
around the fireplace. Also, the sofa is
setted up directly facing the fireplace.
Everything has a place in the room.
There is nothing wild about the room at
all.

dining room. You can tell because
it has a lot of wood furniture. It
also gives you more of an older
vibe to it. The carpet also gives it
a very formal look to the room.

Contemporary
● Neutral, black and white are the main colors in a
contemporary room
● More of a modern looking design
● The most obvious and distinctive element is the line
● No matter what type of line it is, strong visible lines
are evident in any contemporary home
● In contemporary houses less is more, design is not
complexed
● Furniture makes a bold statement
● Floors are bare and smooth

Transitional Style
● Simple focuses, such as a focus wall

● Neutral colors, such as creams, greys and blacks
● Contrast is highlighted through textures and tones
● Mirrored, glass and metallic furnishings and decor
● Materials that were used in the past, worked into the
design
● Leather and other fabrics used
This is an example of a transitional
design.I know this because it has minimal
design. Also, the colors in the room are
neutral.(Grey, cream and black) The bold
furnishings are simple lines, there are not
that many curves. This room is combining
a traditional style and a more modern style
together. That is why this room has a
transitional style.

Cottage Style
● Furniture is often recycled, purchased from flea markets
and collected from family rejects
● Nothing needs to match
● Furniture is adapted from use to another
● There are many colors that go into a cottage theme but,
it still has a unifying theme to it
● Mix of fabrics
● A rustic style, with a twig or rough-hewn wood furniture
This is a great example of a cottage
design living room. I know this because of
the mix of styles put together into one
design. Also, some of the furniture looks
like it is used or from a flea market. There
are multiple colors but, it still has a
pattern to the room. The room does have
wood floors, with a little bit of wood
furniture to really make the room a
cottage design.

and could of been passed down in
the family or from a flea market.

designs mixed into one. The colors are
very different but, it still goes together
very well. You can tell that some of the
furniture has been used for multiple
reasons and has been bought either at
a flea market or recycled. The room
also it has a mix of fabrics, which make
the room a cottage design.
Bohemian Design Style
● Carefree, with little rules, is whatever your heart
desires
● Vintage furniture and light fixtures
● Globally inspired textiles and rugs
● Items found in a variety of places including a flea
market and during one’s travel
● Very earthly tones: greens, browns, jewel tones and
metallics
● Patterns are very important but, it doesn’t have to go
together, they are combined and are used in
unconventional ways
● More is More
This is an example of a Bohemian living
room because of the earthy tones it has.
Like the use of browns and greens. Also,
the room has globally inspired furniture
and objects. The “more is more” moto is
definitely used in this room because there
are a lot of extra accessories and objects
that really make this room a bohemian
design.
This dining room is definitely a
bohemian design because of the
vintage light fixture and furniture.
Also, the use of green and earthly
colors make the room a bohemian
design. The pattern in this room is
very different then most designs
because a bohemian design
patterns don’t have to go together.
This kitchen has a bohemian design
because of the mix of patterns in the
room. They don’t go together, like the rug
and the backsplash have nothing in
common. Also the earthy colors like the
green refrigerator and counter storage,
with the brown wall color. Lastly you can
tell the room has a bohemian design
because of the vintage light fixture.

has, like the green on the wall and
the brown couch. Also, it has a
vintage light fixture. The pattern of
the carpet does not match the couch,
but it is a bohemian design so, that is
suppose to happen. The items in the
room look like they are from a flea
market of some sort.
