IV. Question and Answer

1. How is the total resistance affected when the number of identical resistors
is increased in series-connected resistors in parallel-connected resistors?
Ans: If connected in parallel, the total resistance is the value of one of the
resistors divided by the number of resistors in parallel. If connected in series, the total
resistance is the value of one resistor multiplied by the number of resistors in series

2. When the number of identical resistors is increased, what happens to the

total circuit current in a series connected circuit? In parallel-connected
circuit?

Ans: Components of an electrical circuit or electronic circuit can be connected

in many different ways. The two simplest of these are called series and parallel
and occur frequently. Components connected in series are connected along a
single path, so the same current flows through all of the components.
Components connected in parallel are connected along multiple paths, so the
same voltage is applied to each component

3. Refer to the circuit below. What is the total resistance and total voltage?
And voltage and current on A,B, and C?

Ans: 0.8V A. 0.33A

0.16Ω B. 0.33A
C. 0.16A

4. What is voltage on A,B, and D? what is current on A, B,C and D? What is

resistance on C? What is total current and total resistance?

Ans: A. 230V A. 7.6A C. 3.8 Ω Total Current: Total Resistance:

B. 230V B. 7.6A 21 0.1 Ω
D. 230V C. 2.87A
D. 5.75A
