Respiratory System
• Breathing is the process that
brings oxygen in the air into
your lungs and moves oxygen
and through your body.
• The human respiratory system
is a series of organs
responsible for taking in
oxygen and expelling carbon
dioxide.
Respiratory Organ
• Look at the picture!
Nose
Nose is an organ to
moist, filter, and
warm the air.
Mouth
• Mouth is an organ to take in
air and transport it to the
Pharynx.
Epiglottis
Epiglottis prevents the
food and liquids from
entering the windpipe.
Pharynx

• Pharynx is an organ to
pass the air from the
mouth to the lungs.
Larynx
• Larynx is an organ to
produce vocalizations
(speech)
Trachea
Trachea is an organ to
filter the air we inhale
and branches into the
bronchi.
Bronchi
• Bronchus is an organ to
pass air from the lungs
through two pipes of the
trachea.
Bronchioles
• Bronchioles are organs to
pass the air from bronchi
to the alveoli (air bag) of
the lungs.
Diaphragm

• Diaphragm is an organ to
pump the carbon dioxide
out of the lungs and pull
the oxygen into the lungs.
Alveoli
Alveoli are organ to
exchange oxygen and
carbon dioxide gases.
