LESSON 1
INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

PERFORMANCE TASK NO. 1 – MEDIA USE LOG


Think of the past week, record your use and interaction with media and information providers (such as internet,
social media, TV, radio, newspaper, etc.). indicate how many hours you spent engaged with each one.
Example:

Questions:

PERFORMANCE TASK NO. 2 – HOW IS COMMUNICATION AFFECTED BY MEDIA AND INFORMATION?


Answer the following questions:
1. How do you use Social Media as a tool or medium for communication?
2. How did Social Media affect or change the way we communicate with other people?
3. How did Social Media affect the quantity and quality of information available to people? Is it a good thing or bad
thing?

Analyze and explain this illustration. Identify or established the connections between media literacy, information
literacy, and digital literacy.
PERFORMANCE TASK NO. 4 – PREFERENCES, HABITS, AND LIFESTYLES
Write down your media habits, lifestyles, and preferences. Create a conclusion based on the information about
your media habits, lifestyles, and preferences.
Sample Questions
1. On an average how much time do you spent online? What do you always do when you are online? Why?
2. Do you watch TV? If yes, what programs do you watch on TV? Why?
3. Do you read books or magazines? What kind of books or magazines do you read?
4. Where do you get your news? Why?

PERFORMANCE TASK NO. 3 – POSTER MAKING


Create a poster which will be a campaign for high school students to be a responsible user and competent
producer of media information. Place it in a 1/8 illustration board.
Message: Be a responsible user and competent producer of media information.
The poster must focus on the issue and not attack or mentioned personalities. Use of foul words are not allowed.
Sample Topics: Campaign Against Cyberbullying, Be Safe in Cyberspace, Media Message Analysis (Critical
Thinking), Think Before You Click, No to Plagiarism and Proper Behavior on the Internet (Netiquette)

Answer the following questions:
1. Read the different communication models. What have you learned about communication after studying the different
models?
2. Watch the video presentation on YouTube “Media Minute Introduction: What is media anyway?”

4. Write an essay about the value of being a media and information literate individual. Your essay must have a title, an
introduction, a body paragraph (1 main argument with 2 examples), and a conclusion. Not less than 12 sentences

LESSON 2
THE EVOLUTION OF TRADITIONAL TO NEW MEDIA

Create a timeline of your exposure to traditional and new media on a 1/8 illustration board. For each item of
media, include a picture or image, year, short description, and a personal insight.

PERFORMANCE TASK NO. 1 – AUDIO-VISUAL PRESENTATION


Create an audio - visual presentation (Text, Pictures, and Audio) about what information literacy is and
its components and why information literacy skills are important. Use any video editing software, web tools, or
mobile application for making an audio-visual presentation. (e.g. Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Animoto,
VideoShow, etc.). Soundtrack or music must be in minus one (instrumental). Although minus one, the music
must not be associated with cursing, vulgar words, or profanity. Only original pictures taken by students using
their smartphone will be used in the project. Pictures can be enhanced or edited using any photo editing
software, web tool, or mobile application.
The audio-visual presentation must not attack or make fun of any personalities. Foul words are not
allowed. Running time should be from 3 - 4 minutes including the intro and credits. Proper citation and
acknowledgment is required.

LESSON 4
INFORMATION LITERACY

PERFORMANCE TASK NO. 1 – ESSAY


Write an essay about your analysis and evaluation of the effects of media to the Filipino youth. Your
essay must have a title, an introduction, a body paragraph (1 main argument with 2. Not less than 12 sentences.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Define & give some examples of the following type of media: (a) Print Media; (b) Broadcast Media; (c) Film/Cinema;
(d) Video Games (Digital Games); and (e) New Media
