METHODOLOGY
Introductory Review: Some causes of communication breakdown
Activity Motivational question: Why is there a need to have an effective communication?

Activity Collaborative Learning: The class is grouped into six. Each group is given a particular situation
and ask to understand and formulate appropriate communication strategies to avoid
communication breakdown.
 Reporting follows after 10-minute preparation.

Analysis Socratic Dialogue: After each report, the group is asked the following questions based on their
formulated communication strategies:
1. Why did you come up with those communication strategies?
2. What are your indications of formulating them?
3. How effective your formulated communication strategies?

After the interactive discussion, the teacher presents the following tips in formulating their own
effective communication strategies.

To further understand the communication strategies, the teacher presents “Seven Effective
Communication Strategies by Shiela Dicks. To facilitate learning, the teacher regroups the class
into seven and distributes a strip of paper that contains their assigned communication strategy to
be discussed. Each group is given 5 minutes to analyze and discuss.

Processing is followed after each report.

Abstraction The teacher asks the following:
1. What are the tips in formulating effective communication strategies?
2. What are the seven effective communication strategies by Sheila Dicks?

Application Think/Pair/Share
(The use of think/pair/share is a cooperative strategy whereby students follow a three step process to
consider and communicate ideas: first, taking time alone to think about and respond to a posed question;
secondly, forming pairs to discuss personal responses; lastly, sharing responses with a larger group or the
class.)

Have you been in a situation wherein you had to communicate effectively to accomplish
something or to get out of trouble? Describe the situation and the communication strategy you
employed. Discuss also how the communication strategy helped you.

Assessment Work in Triad

Graphic Organizer: Create a Venn diagram showing this situation: “Anyone may experience
difficulties in communicating. Compare two specific situations (one involving a prominent person
and another involving an ordinary one) which demonstrate the need for strategy in order to
effectively communicate.
