To the Admissions Committee,

It is an honor to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of applicant, Benjamin

Vandehey. Ben is one of those rare students who knows who he is, and just as important, has a
clear plan and pathway to a career that interests him. Ben has the drive and determination to
be successful in the health care field, ideally finding a career in sports medicine.

Academically Ben is at the top of his class and has chosen to complete our Health Sciences
career pathway, designed to prepare students for a career in health care, as well as give them
real world experiences. Ben has taken advantage of this opportunity and continues to research
and explore so he has a better idea what field of medicine to pursue. Ben is mature beyond his
years and his planning will benefit him in his college selection and career path.

Ben has been challenged physically and mentally being born with a deformity known as Pectus
Excavatum. He has not allowed his health concerns to limit his physical activity, continuing to
play tennis and basketball at the varsity level. His resiliency is evident where he must overcome
physical obstacles the average athlete does not.

Ben has an inquisitive nature and he puts it to good use as he continues to learn about the
human body. His fascination with Anatomy and Physiology continues to grow with each course
he completes. While our Health Sciences program discourages some students, it’s had the
opposite effect on Ben. It has strengthened his resolve that he’s on the right career track.

Ben will be a welcome addition to any college campus and community he joins. He has my
highest recommendation and I know he’ll accomplish any goal he sets for himself. You will be
receiving a determined student of the highest character who’ll excel in any sports medicine
program he chooses.

Sincerely,

Matt Steele
Glencoe High School Counselor
