1.To convert the 220 V AC power supply to 12V
DC power supply using step-down transformer
and rectification.
2. To design and stimulate the “OR Gate.”

GATE:- A gate is defined as a digital circuit which follows some logical
relationships between the input and output voltages. It is a digital
circuit which either allows a signal to pass through or stop it.
The logic gate are building blocks at digital electronics . They are
used in digital electronics to change one voltage level into another
according to some logic statement relating to them.

TRUTH TABLE:- A LOGIC gate may have one or more than one inputs
,but it has only one output .The relationship between the possible
values of input and output voltage are expressed in the form of a
table called truth table.
Truth table of a logic gate is a table that shows all inputs and
outputs that are possible for the logic gates.

There are two symbols of OR gates:
• The American (ANSI or 'military') symbol.
• The IEC ('European' or 'rectangular') symbol.
• The deprecated DIN symbol.

Any Boolean algebraic operation can be associated with the
input and output, which represents the statement of Boolean
algebra. Although these circuits may be complex , they may all
be constructed from three basic devices like a P-N junction
diode, a resistance and an N-P-N transistor.

▪ The first stage of circuit is stepdown transformer
which converts the 220 V AC into 12 V AC .
▪ The next stage is the Diode-bridge wave rectifier
which uses four or more diodes to converts the
12V AC into 12 V DC.
▪ Then the supply is passed through the filter
circuit containing capacitor to stop the AC
component if present and thus we obtain a
smooth DC.
▪ After this the supply is given to the 7805 type
transistor to regulate the potential across the
supply.
▪ Now we obtain DC with no AC components and
with constant potential .
Truth Table of OR Gate:-

The working of OR gate can be explained on basis of following

TRUTH Table. :-

A B X

0 1 1

1 0 1

1 1 1

The following conclusions can be drawn from circuit:-
➢If both A and B is ‘ON’ (i.e. A=1 & B=1) then
bulb will glow (i.e. P=1).
➢If A is ‘ON’ and B is ‘OFF’ (i.e. A=1 & B=0)
then bulb will glow (i.e. P=1).
➢If A is ‘OFF’ and B is ‘ON ’ (i.e. A=0 & B=1)
then bulb will glow (i.e. P=1).
➢If both A and B is ‘OFF’(i.e. A=0 & B=0) then
bulb will not glow (i.e. P=0).

Or gates is used in following Places:-
➢ Logic gates are used as building blocks of digital electronics.
➢ Wherever the occurrence of any one or more than one event is
needed to be detected or some actions are to be taken after their
occurrence, in all those cases OR gates can be used. Suppose in an
industrial plant if one or more than one parameter exceeds the
safe value, some protective measure is needed to be done. In that
case OR gate is used.
➢ An OR Gate is used for circuits where multiple power sources can
power the same thing, such as 3 buttons placed around a house
that causes a piston to seal the entrance or open a door when
pressed.
➢ “Alarm circuit for car door system”:-
When any one or more doors are opened, then the output of the 4-
input OR gate is 1, then the alarm rings. So that we can know
the condition of doors, whether they are properly closed or not.
➢ And many more.
