4. In about 300 words, describe your experience with Edmodo both as a student and as a teacher.

It has been a great experience working with this application due to its safe and friendly
collaborative online environment for students, teachers and parents. I will certainly use this
application in my future classes because it is easy to use-the page is set up in a similar way to
Facebook, thus both students and parents manage to use it successfully because they are familiar
with this social media already, and students can share their opinions, thus their involvement is
increased because they gain a digital voice, but also because it secure-students and parents must
receive a pass code in order to be part of the group, or to check their child’s profile.

The time spent on this application has made me realize that there are for sure more benefits of
this application than disadvantages, and some of them are the following ones: students have easy
access to homework, quizzes, class agenda, grades and school notices- reminders, polls;
especially for the teacher is a bonus the fact that Google and Microsoft- Word online, PPT
online, Excell online- are integrated in the application. I like that there is a smart phone version
that enables me to be in touch with the other members of the group- I receive immediately the
notifications and the messages, and these things give me a sense of control and it also saves me
from wasting time (I don’t have to open my PC, log-in, search for messages/notification). I also
appreciate that the application is very organized; it has a “progress” tab where the students’
progress is showed, and information about students’ grades, progress can be communicated
individually and privately.

As I said in the previous paragraph, the disadvantages are few, but there are students from poor
background who do not have access to the internet or do not own a device and these shortages
may make them feel left out. Another disadvantage may be that for the persons who are not very
comfortable with using technology or social medias, and thus the application can be perceived as
a difficult to use one.

In conclusion, Edmodo is a great way to keep in touch with students and parents, because
teaching and discussions are extended beyond the classes, parents are informed regarding their
children’s progress, and in some cases the teachers’ work is diminished- the quizzes do not need
to be graded by them.
