Research problem background:
Choosing and deciding on something hav e consequences. The
results of what you have chosen can help you or it will hinder you in the future . It is also the same with the strand that you will have to decide. According to Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V in order to keep up with other countries in terms of knowledge and competence in different fields, the Philippines has adopted the K to 12 learning prog ram, which has been the standard education system in other countries for quite some time now. The said program aims to enhance the quality of learning of students by adding 2 years on secondary education level. The additional 2 years is called Senior High School (SHS), in which students will be allowed to choose a particular track that is related to the field or profession that they wish to pursue in the future. Choosing a track is critical for making a student highly proficient in the field where his or her chosen track is related to, especially if the student wishes to work immediately after graduating from SHS. As most educators say, a mismatch in the track and the student’s interests, personality and passion may lead to a poorly knowledgeable graduate wh o will find it hard to compete in the job market or keep up with other students when he or she goes to college . Senior high is new to Filipinos making it harder to choose the right strand. Decision making in the teenage years is confusing esp ecially in choosing the course that they are going to take in college. Students still don’ t know what career they should take, that’s why they are still conf used about the strand that they will take in senior high because they should be consistent and serious about it because they are going to engage with it to the rest of their lives. In our class most of my classmates will not continue computer programming in college. Which means there are factors why they choose this strand even they don’t want it. With their wrong de cision it may affect their performance in college.
