REACTION

Honestly, I hate history because I hate to memorize the dates, names of people, places and

events. As others said, past is past and we must move on and so, why should we go back on past

then? Beside of that whenever I heard about the subject history it reminds me of my high school

teacher in my first year in high school. He is a boring teacher that teaches history, I did not really

learn from him. I always yawn and was always felt sleepy whenever he teaches history and maybe

that’s why I don’t like history. But somehow I know that history has a great influence in our present

time as well as our future especially when we did something in the past. But still whenever or

whatever it is, I know and I must accept the fact that history is a part of everyday lives of people.

After I enrolled the subject Philippine History, I know to myself that I will have to deal

with dates, names of people, places and events. Even though afraid of doubting that I can survive

this subject because I know there will be a lot of memorizing to be done, I still have the confidence

that this subject will not be a boring one and I will enjoy it because I know that our instructor Mr.

Noli Corpuz is a very good teacher in teaching Philippine History. He adds some sense of humor

in the discussion as well as making the learning in history relevant to our present life as a Filipino

people.

As we tackled the subject which is the Philippine History, I’ve learned a lot of things that

I must really have to discover about my country. God had blessed the Philippines with rich natural

resources that Filipinos can be benefited and a good climate and soil. Filipinos are blessed because

God had chosen the Philippines to become a Christian country, to become the entrance of the

Gospel to other Asian nations and God created the Philippines for a special purpose. The

Philippines is very special and Filipinos must thank God of that.

We are rich in cultural heritage, that’s makes the Philippines also unique. Even though we

just came from different Malay races, we are one – we are a Filipino. I salute the first Filipino hero

of the Philippines Lapulapu for his courage and bravery of fighting the foreign invaders who wants

to colonized the Philippine. Even though we colonized by the Spaniards, we are still blessed

because if they did not colonize the Philippines and spread the Christianity, Filipinos will not

become a Christian.

Our heroes who fight for our independence endured of sufferings for us to have the

independence that we have right now. We must value this and continue to become worthy of it.

Filipinos today don’t know the history and they don’t also know who are the Filipinos who fought

hard for our freedom, and some are forgotten. History must be really thought so that we will

enlighten the mind of our fellow Filipinos and be proud as a Filipino because Filipinos are fighter,

intelligent, and brave.

Our ancestors are united but later on when the foreign colonizers came, they are not united

that’s why foreigners invade easily the Philippines. As of today there is still a crab mentality that

destroys both the Filipino. Many negative traits like the abusive, corrupt and oppressive officials.

The colonial mentality which is bad for the development of the people. It is really sad that Filipinos

are not proud of their country because of the bad things happened in the past and the economic

system and the bad governance of our country.

As a Filipino people we must love our country because we are a Filipino and we are one.

History teaches us a lot of lesson but some others did not learn from it and still imitating the bad

habits of the past. Filipinos must learn from the wrong doing of the Filipinos of the past. We must

lift up our image and make our positive and good traits become dominant. As a Filipino we must
love our country, be proud that you are a Filipino, know your heritage, your history and you will

learn a lot from the past.

I appreciate a lot of things that our national heroes as well as the Filipinos that didn’t

recognized form their heroism for fighting for our independence and freedom. Because of them

we are free and we live in liberty. I am proud that I survive this subject Philippine History, now I

know that there is a lot of important things that I must know. Aside from loving our country,

respect for national heroes and national anthem and loving our native products and before I can

say that I am really a proud Filipino, I must first know the History of the Philippines.
