Internet Addiction and Its Psychological Effect

ABSTRACT
This study investigated the psychological effect
inflicted on people when they use the internet
excessively. Results of the research showed that
the internet addiction among teenagers is very
high because of the availability of advanced
technology and leisure time. Recent studies
indicated that the excessive use of the internet
leads to behavioral disorders. In this research it
was found out that people who scored high on
the depression and loneliness scale used the
internet excessively as to curb away their
worries and their frustrations. This research was
carried out on 100 people selected randomly
regardless of their age, ethnicity, race and
religion.
INTRODUCTION
In today's world researches claim that the reason
of rise in mental illness and physical illness is
caused by the interaction with the internet.
However, some researches claim that internet
has contributed positively in users lives.
Overwhelmingly, internet users are better
educated than non users. One study shows that
4,254 U.S internet users, only 8% had not had
post-high school education. Mostly internet
users are earning higher household incomes than
non-users which show that there is a positive
correlation between internet and betterment of
life and Internet's ability to expand
relationships. It cannot be judged but those on
the other side of the debate fear that the internet
will alienate people from their richer, more
authentic relationships. Old researches claims
that through internet people support each other
whether in a workplace scenario, social circle,
communities or without knowing each other
People are offering more support to each other
online than offering it in person. However, the
one major factor that contributes in providing
authentic results and in analyzing during the
research is age factor of Adults, youngsters,
senior citizens. In recent years, Mostly
researches claims that youngsters scored high on
depression and loneliness scales because they
have more leisure time and they are more prone
to find solutions online which is why they have
become couch potatoes instead of spending
more time on sports and physical activities. The
motive of this research is to explain the effects
of excessive internet usage on a person’s mental
health and its psychological effects.
