effluents as a way to avoid environmental pollution: the use

chemical effluents
Artigo Alex Alves Bandeira
Environmental Science and Pollution Research International, Jan
2019, Vol.26(3), pp.2547-2558 [Periódico revisado por pares]
Environmental pollution analysis should be present in scientific
research. The more organized the environmental laws of a
particular place, the smaller the risks imputed to the
ecosystem. The environmental damages that irregular waste
from industrial effluents can cause are notorious. However,
Brazil lacks extensive legal regulation, which is an embryonic
legal matter. There is no specific law regulating a National
Industrial Effluent Policy, dealing with the treatment and final
disposal of these chemical compounds. Until a solid legal
structure has been formalized on the treatment and final
disposal of industrial effluents in Brazil, it is necessary that
scientific researches optimize techniques capable of causing
lower environmental impacts, so as to avoid possible pollution
to the bodies of water. This article defends the argument that it
is possible to elaborate legislation on the treatment and final
disposal of industrial effluents in Brazil, through the application

The huge amount of paint and phosphate sludge waste materials
generated by M/S Ford India Private Limited during
manufacturing of cars and other vehicle. The Co-processing of
phosphate sludge waste in the cement kiln is the
environmentally sound manner without influencing emissions an
partial replacement of traditional fuel. Co-processing benefits
up grade waste management reduce environmental impacts,
improves the industrial sectors competitiveness, decreases
largely the cost of waste management of sludge and improves
all techno- economically factors. The analysis results of the
stack parameters reveled that the emission values are well
below the standard set by Central Pollution Control Board for
the common hazardous waste incinerators. The cement
manufacturing process require high temperature in the kiln
around 1400-1450 [degrees]C with a high residence time of 4-5
sec. such high temperature conditions ensure no noxious
emission during the Co-processing of the waste materials.

Artigo International Journal of Applied Environmental Sciences, May,
2011, Vol.6(2), p.201(16) [Periódico revisado por pares]
Sediment samples were collected from twenty selective sites of
the river Buriganga during summer 2009 and analyzed to
determine the extent of major, some trace and rare earth
elements and to recognize the mineralogy of sediments of
Buriganga River. The total concentrations of major, trace and
rare earth elements of sediment samples were estimated by X-
Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy. The mineralogical constituents
in the sediment samples were indentified using X-Ray
Diffractometer. The average concentration of vanadium,
rubidium, strontium, yttrium, zirconium, niobium, tin,
antimony, cesium, barium, lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium
and neodymium in Buriganga river sediment were 90.4, 132.0,
154.4, 36.3, 424.8, 17.1, 4.9, 1.2, 10.5, 493.2, 56.4, 105.5, 11.6
and 42.0[micro]g [g.sup.-1], respectively. Along with
aluminosilicate minerals, other minerals like iron oxides and to
a lesser extent, sodium, manganese, titanium and phosphorus
containing minerals were present in sediments. Quartz,
feldspar, several clay minerals like micas & illites, chamosite,
chlorites, kaolinite & biotite; bayerite and calcite were common
in sediment samples. Several elements like yttrium, zirconium,
niobium, cesium, cerium, praseodymium and neodymium
content in sediments were relatively higher than that of
average shale and continental upper crust values. On the other
hand, strontium and barium content was lower than that of
average shale and continental upper crust values. Enrichment
factor values suggest that tin, antimony, zirconium, cesium,
rubidium, lanthanum and cerium were enriched in the
sediments. On the basis of Index of geoaccumulation
([I.sub.geo]) the Buriganga river sediment is uncontaminated to
moderately contaminate with tin, antimony, zirconium,
lanthanum, cesium, rubidium and cerium. While [I.sub.geo]
values for strontium, vanadium, neodymium, yttrium, niobium,
praseodymium and barium exhibit in class "zero", indicates
uncontaminated sediments with these elements. Keywords:

Devi, Parmila ; Saroha, Anil
Artigo Environmental Science and Pollution Research International, Nov
2016, Vol.23(21), pp.21641-21651 [Periódico revisado por pares]
Risk assessment and technical feasibility of brick formation from
exhausted paper mill sludge derived biochar obtained after its
use as an adsorbent for the treatment of effluent containing
pentachlorophenol was studied. The bricks were prepared by
geopolymerization mechanism in presence of sodium hydroxide,
and the extent of geopolymerization was determined on the
basis of crystal structure, surface functionalities, and surface
morphology of the bricks. The preparation parameters (sodium
hydroxide dosage, initial water and calcium carbonate content
and curing temperature) were optimized and the results were
analyzed in terms of compressive strength, water absorption,
and abrasion index. Risk assessment of heavy metals was
performed to determine the contamination level and overall
hazard index of the biochar-based geopolymer bricks. Hazard
quotient and hazard index were calculated to assess the overall
non-carcinogenic risk posed by selected heavy metals via
ingestion and dermal contact. The leaching potential of heavy
metal and pentachlorophenol from the biochar-based
geopolymer bricks was also determined. The results showed
that the biochar-based geopolymer bricks showed good
mechanical properties and the concentration of heavy metals in
the leachate falls within the permissible limits prescribed by

Fly ash and slag are important by-products obtained from
combustion of municipal sewage sludge (MSS) after
pelletization. The quantitative environmental impact
assessment of heavy metals in fly ash and slag, compared to
MSS, were performed in accordance with bioavailability and
eco-toxicity, geo-accumulation index (GAI), risk assessment
code (RAC), and potential ecological risk index (PERI). The
results demonstrated that not only direct but also long-term
bioavailability and eco-toxicity of heavy metals in fly ash and
slag decreased except direct bioavailability and eco-toxicity of
Pb in fly ash. The GAI demonstrated that combustion
significantly weakened ( P < 0.05) the pollution levels of heavy
metals. PERI indicated that all risks attributed to heavy metals
were significantly lowered ( P < 0.05) from 777.07 (very high
risk) in MSS to 288.72 (moderate risk) and 64.55 (low risk) in fly
ash and slag, respectively. In terms of the RAC, seven heavy
metals had low even no risk to the environments after
combustion besides As in slag. The environmental risk of heavy
metals in fly ash and slag was decreased compared with MSS.
However, the results of PERI showed that fly ash had a moderate
risk.

Biomedical waste management guidelines 2016: What's done Todas versões

and what needs to be done.(Special Article)
Singhal, Lipika ; Tuli, Arpandeep ; Gautam, Vikas
Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2017, Vol.35(2), p.194
Artigo [Periódico revisado por pares]
The latest biomedical waste (BMW) management guidelines
which have been introduced in 2016 are simplified and made
easier so that they can be easily followed by various health
agencies. The categories of BMW have been reduced from ten
(in 1998) to four in the latest (2016) guidelines. Many changes
have been made in these latest guidelines, which have been
summarised in the article below. The segregation of hospital
waste plays a very important role, so the waste has to be sorted
out at the source of generation according to the category to
which it belongs as given in the newer guidelines. Newer waste
treatment facilities such as plasma pyrolysis, encapsulation,
inertisation have been introduced, and we have to do away with
older facilities such as incineration as toxic fumes (dioxins and
furans) are produced which are harmful to both health and
environment. We can even think of using these wastewater
treatment plants to remove the antimicrobial resistance genes
during the processing of the waste, which is being generated
from the hospitals.
as incinerator, autoclave or microwave and effluent treatment
plant. Another concern raised in these new rules is the use of
chlorinated plastic bags...
